The Platinum Collection is a 2006 Virgin Records compilation album written and mostly performed by Mike Oldfield. It contains most of Oldfield's best known work, and some rare mixes of songs that had previously only been available as B-sides to singles. The first two discs are entirely made up of content from Oldfield's Virgin albums, whereas some pieces on disc three are under licence from Warner. List your movie, TV & celebrity picks. List Activity. Released in 1985, B-Movie Matinee proved a stellar departure from Nile Rodgers' initial solo outing. Leaving behind the more traditional trappings of his R&B-inflected debut, he instead looked to the synthesized future, driving his organic bass and guitars into what amounted to a concept album of sorts, fueled by memories of lazy Saturday B-movie afternoons. Bright, punchy pop punctuates this set. From the quirky sci-fi of Plan-9 and the contemporary urban groove on State Your Mind, which is one of the album's better tracks, Rodgers fills the space with em. A B movie or B film is a low-budget commercial motion picture that is not an arthouse film. In its original usage, during the Golden Age of Hollywood, the term more precisely identified films intended for distribution as the less-publicized bottom half of a double feature akin to B-sides for recorded music. Although the U. production of movies intended as second features largely ceased by the end of the 1950s, the term B movie continues to be used in its broader sense to this day. In its post. A B-movie is a low-budget commercial motion picture conceived neither as an arthouse film nor as pornography. How else to explain the use the 89-year-old Broadway composers work in three prominent films In Knives Out, a private investigator Daniel Craig - stuck on a case and in his car - puts in his earbuds and croons the lyrics to Losing My Mind, from Follies. The other being, of course, that the musicians who are the subjects of such movies themselves are also incredibly popular. There's something exhilarating about watching a movie about a famous singer, seeing a behind-the-scenes look at the songs we know so well. These movies often show us what we don't get to see on stage: the struggles, the determination, the falls from grace. And there's definitely something appealing about watching actors perform as musicians-either lip-syncing along to famous tracks or tackling vocals themselves. Every expression of the musical movie is present in this cavalcade of the 100 best-reviewed: the classics All That Jazz, The Sound of Music, the mostly moderns La La Land, Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, Mary Poppins Returns, the MGMs Singin in the Rain, An American in Paris, the Astaire & Rogers Top Hat, Swing Time, intimate indies Once, Dancer in the Dark, and stuff for the kids Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. We kept this countdown to live-action musicals, so nothing animated except for the partially so, like Mary Poppins

It's about time "Forever Running" has been released on CD including bonus songs that were not on the original album but on various singles.

Interestingly enough though, the morons at Warner music decided to change the original title to "The Platinum Collection" from it's original title "Forever Running" and change the cover as well for reasons only they know. Maybe they were trying to fool people into thinking this was a best of compilation since it does contain classic songs like "Remembrance Day" and "Nowhere Girl". Unfortunately, both of these songs were completely rerecorded for this album and are totally watered down and completely ruined in comparisons to the versions that were first released as singles.

This album is probably the only proper album B-Movie ever released as all of their other releases have been collections of singles and/or radio sessions. But those releases are far stronger and more raw than the overly slick production and cheesy 80's cash-in sound of this album. Songs like "My Ship Of Dreams" aka "Amnesia" (on BBC Radio Sessions), "Remembrance Day" (on Remembrance Days), "Nowhere Girl" (differing versions found on both Remembrance Days and BBC Radio Sessions) and Polar Opposites (on Radio Days and BBC Radio Sessions) were far more catchy and raw on their original releases than on this one. In fact, the version of "Nowhere Girl" that was heavily rotated by radio stations back in the 80's like KROQ has never been properly released on any of their CD's. It can only be found on it's original 12" and a crappy quality bootleg called "Nightmares In Wax" (which is a small collection of unreleased vinyl only tracks).

While the overall sound quality of this release is great and it's a full CD clocking in at over 79 minutes of music, it is a shame that the overall packaging is completely lacking. As I noted before, the cover art has been completely changed as well as the title and the cover booklet is devoid of any worthwhile information or lyrics other than the song credits. At least all of their earlier CD releases contain liner notes while the "BBC Radio Sessions" release even includes a pretty complete discography along with photos. The one redeeming quality of this CD is that it includes 6 bonus songs, but even these bonus songs are incomplete to their original vinyl release counterparts. In fact, the track listing has slightly been altered from it's original vinyl release opening with the song "Letter From Afar" which was released as a single only and not included on the original release.

If you are a B-Movie fan or completist, the low price of this release is definitely worthy of purchasing. But for those that are new to B-Movie, I highly recommend all of their previous releases before purchasing this one, unless you really dig over the top production that ruined many great bands of the 80's.
A great compilation of tracks from one of the most under-rated bands of the new wave era. This album features most of the songs from their short career as well as some of the 12 inch remixes which cannot be found on any other CD compilations. The album even features the whole of the band's first LP "Forever Running" in which some of the tracks make their first appearances on CD. Unfortunately, even if they released a great number of 12 inch mixes, they left out the 12 inch remix of Nowhere Girl which was arguably one of the band's most popular songs.
