Yes your needle is very important on this one.This may not work for you if you dont have a nice turntable. I have a pretty standard grado on one table with nice old Panasonic speakers downstairs. It played through but lots of warble and lacked detail. Upstairs on my pearl cart with polks it sounds a lot better. Xanny still has some distortion in parts so I think that's by design. Great record music wise. Production off the charts good. Like sky ferreira and lana del rey had a scissor baby. Yes please.

I honestly think the people complaining about this pressing might not have the best sound set up? I played this album through my stereo with multiple klipsch speakers and I heard new harmonies and backing vocals and subtle bass grooves and guitar licks that I didn't hear on my good headphones through the digital release… It added a whole new layer to the experience for me personally and made me understand a lot of its Grammy wins. I'm certain I have this exact pressing and it sounds great. Only distortion is the intentional kind from FINNEAS' production.

Well, I played the album tonight. Great dynamics! I definitely hear the typical surface noise associated with glow in the dark vinyl but it’s pretty low and seems more concentrated to the left channel. However, despite that I have heard worse noise on a few regular black vinyl pressings I have. If someone didn’t care about the glow in the dark gimmick I would probably suggest the regular pressings (that I think are all on peach/beige colour vinyl) would be much quieter and recommended. There are quite a few quiet passages on this album so for me personally I’d like to hear it with much less surface noise. But for collector purposes this is kind of a cool novelty.

I bought this last week even though I own the Copper pressing from urban outfitters. I actually enjoyed the glow in the dark pressing more than the Copper pressing on my setup the surface noise that is present on this pressing gives the music character and that analog feel that people look for when buying vinyl. The surface noise on my copy didn't overpower the music it just added to it in my opinion in a positive way. From what I remember with the Copper pressing the sound was definite silent in regards to surface noise. Both pressings tracked fine on my table which is a Pioneer Plx-1000 mated with a Ortofon Concorde S-120. Since I enjoyed this pressing so much I'm actually considering selling my urban outfitters pressing of this. I haven't played this in the dark yet so I can't really comment on that feature of this pressing. Another thing to keep in mind regarding vinyl in general is the sound is very customizable and what I mean by this is tables with cartridges that have more focus on low-end and mid range like my cart since it is a DJ cart. The surface noise won't overpower the music vs playing a vinyl with allot of surface on a cart that has a brighter more detailed soundstage.

Incredible sounding LP, beautifully mastered & pressed. The reported 'bass distortion' sounds intentionally mixed into the recording & is artistically used to great effect IMHO. Maybe get a better stereo? Just sayin'...

Hi everybody! Can someone point out the songs with this distortion problem. I have a copy of the Apricot vinyl, and this sounds like the digital files you find on YouTube. The distortion esp in Xanny (and some other songs) are part of the art concept. Nevertheless, the pressing is not optimal, as a pity - background noise, some pops -, and I agree that the sound esp for the last songs of side B is rather muddy (but this, again, is an issue of the recording, not of the vinyl). On the other hand side, the vinyl adds a lot of warmth and soul to most of the songs. Seems, as the whole sound concept tends to be extreme in a way, the vinyl adds to that, too.

DANGER !! There is a lot of audio noise and also crackle !!The worst audio quality I've ever heard.I also bought the single box and the CD. The singles are ok but the CD has excellent quality. Haven't thought that there could be such a differenz between LP and CD.

This lime green version is my second copy of Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. It is perfectly centered and there is no warp at all. After an initial basic cleaning, the surface noise is not as quiet as it could be, but it is significantly quieter than my first glow-in-the-dark copy of Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?.

This glow-in-the-dark version was my first copy of Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and I was disappointed. Even after a thorough ultrasonic cleaning, there is a continuous light crackle throughout the album. It is especially noticeable during quiet passages, like at the end of "Xanny", or throughout "Listen Before I Go" and "I Love You", where the crackle pulls me out of an otherwise trance-like moment. Although the album is centered fine, there is a slight warp (although not enough to cause any WOW in the audio). This is why I wish artists would focus on putting out high quality black vinyl first, and release the souvenir colors and picture discs second.Anyway, my second copy is the lime-green version of Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and I am happy to report that the surface noise is much better and there is no warp at all.My suggestion... if you want an album to look at, then buy the glow-in-the-dark version...if you want an album to listen to, then buy the lime green version. (I have never heard the copper version, so I can offer no opinion.)

I've listened to this album, quite extensively, through the Sony MDR-7506 headphones....... and I have to say that there is no bass-heaviness, that's a production trait, if you get a sound rich and fat from your speakers, then it's a matter of your room exciting particular areas of the lower frequences, thus the boominess!!!

All these pressing are made by under par pressing plant GZ Media - why Intercope/Universal Records use them despite complaints and bad reputation is anyones guess but it has to do with some kind of package deal (money as always). My guess is that they have saved in on a dedicated vinyl master cutter for an in house cutter (again saving money...)...

I'm pretty sure the heavy bass "issues" some are describing are quite an intentional part of the recording and not a defect in any way. A good sub-woofer or full range speaker set up will play those bass heavy songs fine without distortion and without the need to fiddle too much with the bass controls (if you have them). Great pressing and great album IMO.

I agree with the other reviews that this album is VERY bass heavy. Just turn your bass down a bit before playing and otherwise it sounds great. My album had no pops at all. The audio itself is very clear, without any loudness "fuzz". The "muffled" audio on side A is intentional and is also present on the digital version, so don't let that deter you if you're thinking of picking this one up.

My copy sounds great. You must understand that this album was mastered bass heavy- intentionally! Baby blue from FYE did not disappoint, especially when you can still get it for 20 bucks at the FYE website (as of Jan-2020). Don't pay the flippers. Don't believe the hype that there is something wrong with the album mix. It is as intended. You should see me in a crown!

This vinyl sounds beautiful! I know GITD vinyls are know for poor quality sound but mine sounds perfect all the way through. The inner part of the gatefold has the lyrics to the the songs. It glows bright!

I have to disagree. This vinyl sounds fantastic, with very deep bass and superb imaging. There is definitely less intended distortion here, than on any digital version of this album, like Tidal Master. However, you need to have an audio system and room capable of carrying such a bass. Please check this record on any 100kUSD+ system and you will surely revise.

Not exactly what I had in mind when we'd all hoped for an issue on black vinyl. I had also thought this album would be good cut to 45rpm. I guess I got what I wished for! That being said, this sounds fantastic on my set up! Also, having !!!!!!! on a single side is an absolute treasure. Clever packaging too.

You know I think I'm going to wait till the rare "Black" colored vinyl edition ever gets released. God forbid there be just a regular black wax version (as it sounds like the colors and the glow in the darks and the varying editions have been too bass'y or over compressed or whatever. But yeah, If I was going to buy this on vinyl I wouldn't want to only have a color be an option. So that's my story and I'm stickin' to it, I'm a bad guy.

I was a little worried about purchasing any pressing of this album since there are so many quiet moments, but it actually sounds excellent! Very minimal surface noise, which is a miracle these days. When in doubt, spin clean.

Really like this album. There is not many albums that enters pop charts that i actually care much for. But Billie is a fresh stroke of paint. All put together in her brothers bedroom together with him. This could easily be her one and only good album, hope she sticks to the bedroom, she seems very rooted and a blast to just hear her talk.As for the album, Really like the stripped down approach. "Ilomilo" is inspired by her favourite game of the same name. Bittersweet but brilliant thus my fave of this album but sad its so short.

Overall, it does sound pretty decent but in the silence points it's just too noticeable for me, personally to handle. Definitely not copper.Edit: My 2nd copy was much better. Crisis averted.

epic album marred by a terrible master/pressing. Distortion pretty much ever time the bass goes in to sub-territory. frequently vocals and hi end are hissy and blown out... You can hear the terrible audio quality in the Juno Records clips, this is definitely one to Try Before You Buy.... seems like it's not a good sign that there are currently 25 copies for sale here on discogs... all 'mint'

Excellent version. Translucent orange disc (copper? um, NO). Urban Outfitters release, made in Canada. I have a decent turntable, speakers and sub, have listened to the digital version a ton of times, and this sounds rich. The bass is not obnoxious and the production doesn't sound muddy. It sounds exactly like it should. Very glad I didn't buy the glow in the dark version. No scratching on mine, and UO does a great job of shipping in a double box.

Love the mastering on this. It's not copper, it's orange. But it came with a download code (a nice bonus) and it sounds great. I'm using a 2M Red and it sounds miles and away better than the digital version. The bass, in particular, is sublime. Edit: on a re-listen, there is a bit of surface noise at high levels so probably not a 5-star pressing. But still very happy with it.

Truly great sounding pressing, and the wax is quite stunning as well. I love the brother's production here, if I'm understanding the roles correctly. These instrumentals are fantastic. It's honestly kinda weird to me that it's only her name on the project. Her vocals are very pretty in the more subtle moments of the album and at times are excellently creepy and other-worldly (partially because of the effects on them), but the production is the star of the show for me. From track to track this thing is an emotional roller coaster in terms of subject matter and general vibe. A joyous pop anthem is only right around the corner from a dark, somber ballad or an electronic banger. It's a fun ride.

Alright I typically don't do bad reviews, but I was so excited for this one, even knowing the bad history that glow in the dark vinyl has...But this thing is barely even listenable at points. The bass on 'Bad Guy' is horrific, and surface noise is present throughout. DO NOT BUY this, even for retail. Unless you just want something to hang on the wall this is a waste of vinyl imo. Needless to say I sold it directly after the first listen, and on principle I don't see myself getting a second copy of this.

My glow copy has more noise then the orange and lime vinyl but it still sounds excellent. The album is heavy on bass and sounds fantastic on my set up. I do agree that the glow vinyl is not the best of the available vinyl colors.

The "glow in the dark cassette" does NOT glow in the dark at all [unlike the glow in the dark vinyl] but it does look great under a blacklight though as it then DOES light up.

Honestly, not bad at all for a glow in the dark pressing. Even on "when the party's over", which is not only a more quiet track, but also an inner groove track, the noise isn't enough to distract from the music. The mix is very rich and dynamic as well which helps! Great album too ????????

If you are referring to "Xanny", I suggest listening to the lyrics and notice this "distortion" is utterly brilliant.The mastering and mix is wonderful. The "punch" on this album is perfect.

Good songs, but I returned the orange vinyl as it was very poorly mixed and mastered. Peaking bass on side 1, muffled side 2... why not simple black vinyl? This album needs a redo.

Only LP colour consistent with the artwork of the album: Glow in the dark version. Too bad I can only purchase the orange version in France as it doesn't suit the album mood at all. How come there isn't a regular black vinyl available ?There isn't a single bad song on this album. The talent of the siblings here is impressive. Refreshing, moving, subtle, mysterious, pretty dark but with always a touch of lightness, this album is worth every penny.

Absolutely agree ! Best album I've heard in at least a decade ! Excellent marketing too ! I bought the orange, glow and lime vinyl albums, the deluxe CD and the glow and orange cassette. The glow and lime vinyl both light up under blacklight as does the glow cassette (that actually does NOT glow in the dark though).

I wanted to have one glow in the dark vinyl so I bought this version, but it's the worst sounding vinyl in my collection. I think the worst sounded are slower songs like: When The Party's Over, I Love You, Goodbye... And songs heavier on bass (You Should See Me In A Crown, Bury A Friend...) sounds ok.

I have both the orange vinyl as well as the glow vinyl and the orange sounds significantly better indeed. The glow version is a very cool gimmick though and that's the version I play when I have all my blacklights on as it lights up insanely cool then !

Glowing is a cool gimick, but if you want perfect sound i recommend to grab an other version. I got this because of the glowing and it's limited, but i'm also planning to get a normal version to listen. :)

I have several glow in the dark albums and this one indeed has more "extra noise" than the orange colored vinyl album that I have of this LP as well. But the glow is a great gimmick and it lights up under blacklight and keeps glowiing in the dark when I turn my blacklights off. Very, very cool. I also have the KISS album "Creatures of the night" on glow in the dark vinyl. Also noticably way more noise than the regular black vinyl of that album but so mighty cool !

There is a decent amount of surface noise, and it's definitely noticeable in between tracks, but overall the sound quality is pretty good. I was scared before getting it because of everyone saying the glow in the dark version sounded awful, but it sounds pretty great on my set-up.

I prefer a simple clear or black pressing... but the problem here seems to be in the mixing itself... the bass peaks too much and the album as a whole is a bit muffled.

Technical: Side 1 has some bass dynamic issues and the album overall sounds a little muffled... but I'd still rate it 3/5 The album does need to be remastered though.

I think the bass dynamics are in the recording. Mastered that way. It’s way over the top. Every version of this album I’ve played, either in car, home stereo or headphones the bass has to be turned down on several songs.

People, you all heard the digital version.Yes, some distortions are intentional in the songs but this pressing sound horrible: filled with noise all over its parts, quiet or not... plus it sounds super muffled all throughout the two sides. Whilst its volume is pretty low compared to my other records..I've read the comments for the other pressings and it seems that there's the FYE exclusive baby blue + one of the US versions of this vinyl that are worth having... but again what is it will all of these different pressings? ...and they all sound like crap... shame.

I promise I'm not trying to be rude but you do realize that the parts that sound distorted/run into the red are the way she and her brother wanted it to sound, right? It's not a QC thing. I read an interview with her brother somewhere that said they did it to basically make fun of the "bass culture" in this type of genre. Like how hip-hop nowadays seems to be obsessed with it more than anything else in the beat.

I bought the orange vinyl (602577427671) yesterday and it sounds FANTASTIC !!! Yes - it's heavy on bass and distortion and you sure need a setup that can handle that. I can imagine the CD in older, cheaper portable players to sound like crap because of that.... This vinyl however is a blast. I bought it because I have the glow in the dark variant in the mail and just couldn't wait for it to arrive.... I have several glow in the dark albums and the one of Air - Moon safari sounds perfect so I guess the issue is not necessarily the glow vinyl.

If it sounds anything like the Glow In The Dark variant, it sounds bad, yes.Unfortunately there's an insane level of ground noise, that pretty much spoils the fun, also some parts are very distorted, when it's too bass heavy. Doesn't sound like someone bothered properly mastering it for vinyl.

No, this was exclusive to UK and Ireland. Her biggest UK fans on Spotify got access to the sale first. Only 1500 copies pressed as far as anyone knows there's no reason to assume will be a US pressing.

Yes, the vinyl has to 'load' on light first. The effect is brilliant. It also lights up (and charges faster) under blacklight.
