I don `t know what happened with the master tape but I can say with 100% certainty what was released in Europe to America and Canada and Australia and Japan - but only in 1975 !!!! is the true sound of this album here is very good cymbals sound especially in the American and Canadian editions (Warner Lab-Alley), What was published in 1980 and later sounds disgusting (cream Warner) and NEMS in europpe except for England — it sounds acceptable but it has poor and light vinyl and very narrow and not muddy paths - saving in 1980 was an economy crisis, all subsequent editions - 1980 and on - rubbish, because the master tape got rid of the first thing that disappears is the high frequency - there are no cymbals, there is no sound transparency, something is pulled out of the CDs only on the black box, so forget about 180 g Remasters - take care of your ears - they are worthy of the first edition - 1975, In my opinion - three greatest albums - paranoid, sabotage and heaven and hell they are gorgeous - this is the pinnacle of heavy music where there is a melody and a heavy sound that is not in the metal ,,, ,,,, they call the Beatles of Heavy Rock - this is true

My copy looks perfect, but sounds really messy. After cleaning, it sounds like everything above a certain frequency (especially the cymbals and higher tones in the guitar) are completely buried. Testing A/B with the digital album on my computer, the digital actually sounds too crisp (quite tinny) while the vinyl is too far the other way (muddy and low). Sometimes you can't win.

Best pressing of this classic I've come across. Sounds just like the original UK, but just a little sharper with more clarity on the vocals. I mean you can hear every little detail of Ozzy's voice it's amazing. Plus the pressing quality is better.

I bought this with a bit of trepidation since the last issue I bought, the Rhino black vinyl of a few years back, was unlistenable on side 2, a sea of constant crackles and repetitive pops overlaying the music (Side 1 sounded great, though). This press sounds as good or better and has very little surface noise. "Sabotage" is certainly one of Black Sabbath's finest albums, a classic of 70's melodic hard rock featuring top notch songs (barring one inexplicable misstep), musicianship and production, and this press does it justice.

I've had the same experience with these Rhino releases. That last round of black vinyl Sabbath releases were quite noisy. For the most part, all of these colored releases have been great, noise-free pressings.

Is this one really an official release ? I have the impression all others Black Sabbath albums that were remastered and released in 2009 have jewel boxes editions that are unofficial, and that only the digipack versions are not counterfeits.

I completely agree with the previous reviewer. This is perhaps the most underrated of the Ozzy-era Sabbath albums. Varied, dark, evil... yet still full of very heavy metallic riffing throughout. In some places, they even manage to sound more like Priest than themselves (or is it that Priest tried to sound like some of this album? Not sure, it could be either). I also suspect that Rush copped an earful of this album as well, as some of the riffs sound like they could have been written by, or for, Alex Lifeson. None of this is a bad thing, by the way, and simply demonstrates the variety of music on this album - which is, perhaps, why some aren't quite so keen on this release. Sadly, it was indeed the beginning of the end, and they failed to produce any more truly classic albums until "Heaven And Hell", though I know that some will disagree with that comment, but to me, H&H is an out-and-out metal masterpiece.

I am really happy with this pressing, a fantastic album. Anybody that does not know this record, all I can say is don't hesitate and just grab it. I find not a lot of people's go to this Sabbath album for musical comfort, it never gets the credit it deserves. More complex than the "classic" stuff, the album is also pretty dark and dirty. Ozzy sounds pissed off and tormented by his demons, yet his bravado helps his voice soar over Ward's relentless pounding rhythms. This album can be considered the beginning of the end, maybe that's why it has a beautiful sadness with an underlying anger. Four friends on top of the world saying "fuck you" to everyone and to each other. Essential in my humble option.

Best sounded CD -SABOTAGE- & VOL.4 is on BLACK BOX USA RHINO-WARNER 2004 & Repress 2015 box set(but cheap covers) and possible digipack Rhino-Warner 2016. CASTLE remasters 1996 & UNIVERSAL 2009 have a VERY BAD SOUND!!!!

Get a re-mastered version from the UK. Great sound quality, booklets with lyrics, at least my 1996 version does, and the CD cover itself is pretty.

While this is an excellent sounding repress of (imo) Black Sabbath's return to form following the filler-laden "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," side two of my copy is marred by constant loud pops and clicks that render the LP unlistenable. Based on other reports indicating similar problems, I recommend avoiding this 2016 press by Rhino. I'm returning my copy and don't plan on gambling on another.

Great sounding master at a very reasonable price. However, I can not recommend this edition. I am very disappointed in the careless lack in quality of this release especially for a reputable label such as Rhino. I have had some excellent LP's from them before so I am pointing the finger at Rainbo Records as it is the pressing itself which is awful.There is a moderate amount of surface noise which can only be heard during the quieter sections, though this is the least concerning of the various issues. The disc itself is pressed noticeably off-center and is warped in multiple areas. The brief static heard during the intro riff to "The Thrill of it All" is present, and although it is only a couple seconds it still interrupts one of the best guitar riff intros in rock history. This is a known issue with this particular edition and affects every copy. On side 2 there is a very loud low-frequency 'thud' that occurs at every rotation for most of the playing time which is extremely distracting. Besides the moderate surface noise and occasional loud clicks/pops there is also a lot of "non-fill" issues on side 1 - if you inspect the surface in the light you can clearly see the silver lines/dots that represent the non-fill areas in the grooves. This causes audible distortions during playback that can not be remedied in any way. List a potential defect that is possible with vinyl records and this pressing has it. I am only rating it 2 stars for an incredible sounding master with rich clear bass, good dynamics, and overall lively and accurate reproduction of the original LP. Docking 3 stars for the absolutely careless and poor quality record pressing. I may have just received a dud, but I'm not willing to try again.

Agree. Very nice pressing of the LP. Vocals very clear in the mix. Nice deep bass during Symptom. Good imaging on the solos as well. Only missing Blow on the Jug at the end of The Writ unfortunately.

Stay away from Creative Sounds. I worked for them in the late 80's and early 90's and "Remastered" several albums for them including the Black Sabbath and Deep Purple albums. These albums were all transferred from vinyl LP to 1/4" tape at 30 ips. I then manually edited out most of the clicks and pops using a razor blade. These are horrible rip-offs.

Not the best album of the 6, because there is no such thing.Just the last one, ending in pain and confusion as it started 5 years earlier. Maybe the more accomplished of them all, but who cares really, Sabbath is all about riffs.And this is what you get here, awesome riffs, wicked drums and Ozzy's desperate voice.A step behind Zeppelin and Purple technically but a world further in power and spirit. Despite of the stereotype, there is no devil to find here...Just broken hearts and broken dreams.But something got lost after the sabotage...
