What? A Con album featuring eighteen tracks and all with titles! He's not usually one to bother with such things. But, of course, this is not a Schnitzler solo, but a collaboration with (former East German) experimentalist Thomasius. Some of you may remember Thomasius from Generations Unlimited and Direction Music cassettes, but together with Con he seems to work much better. The two musicians seem to react really well to each other, counterpointing with great precision. Not the classic that Con's own CONSTELLATIONS was, but certainly welcome.
From my review in Audion #21, published in May 1992

This has to be the most extreme release to come out of FÜNFUNDVIERZIG so far. What category it fits into I am not 100% sure, but would describe it as having one light foot in freeform Jazz, and the other foot, heavily leant on, in Industrial Music. It moves, forms semi-rhythms, repeats itself, echoes in stereo, sizzles, bubbles, hums, chatters, chimes and buzzes, doing no end of strange and Surreal things which often vaguely repeat themselves, sometimes stay dissolved, apart, unrelated in any way. There are myriad noises jam-packed into this album, from interesting electronic washes to violin/cello/wind sounds. It is often disturbing, sometimes making the hair on your scalp stand to rigid attention, then route march down your spine as far as it can go. No human beings should make music like this; this is the soundtrack for the Last Days Of Earth, and the visual image it provokes; of dark and gloomy landscapes; of semi-mechanical carrion birds hell-bent on picking flesh from the living; of eldritch mausoleums, enwrapped in swirling mists in old black and white movies; of mad, psychotic figures who haunt the imagination; of sinister knives sharpened for nefarious purposes; of cobwebbed cellars holding dark secrets within their slimy-damp walls; of skin-blistering bursts of heat/light, sudden and without warning, taking away the sight and leaving pain as the major sensation; of tortures performed in isolated warehouses by things by no stretch of the imagination even vaguely human - these are just a random selection of images that entered my mind while listening to this music. It is perfect soundtrack music, disturbing, unsettling, yet thoroughly interesting & full of fascinating sounds. Look out for a more detailed review, once I receive a full copy of the disc. No! I urge you to buy a copy the minute it comes out!
Okay, so I reviewed this in the last issue, but it's out now (I have a couple of spare copies), is 18 tracks long, was recorded at TOMATO STUDIO in 1991. It still remains a fascinating piece of free-form music and is recommended unreservedly. This should appeal to those of you into the RECOMMENDED scene.
