You people are some disgrace, Anything with the KDJ name attached is automatically way overpriced and those paying these stupid prices are equally responsible
100 per cent agree...Just vinyl touts ruining the scene for others
I bought this back in 2014 for "Sloppy Cosmic" which is a glorious eleven, almost twelve minutes long rework of Cosmic Slop by Funkadelic. Unfortunately, it is not identical to the 12" vinyl: This track (and a few others) have been peppered on the CD with newsflash samples about the murder rate in Detroit. That has been a dated production gimmick since Paul Hardcastle's "19". Get the original Moodymann 12" vinyl or watch it on Youtube.Otherwise the music is great. Really great. If only the lyrics were not full of B*tch, Motherf*cker, N*gger etc. I would really love this. It seems so unnecessary to me but maybe it's authentic to Moodyman's scene. A real shame.I can't be mad at Moodyman though as he redeemed himself with the "Moodymann presents nuttn but magic feat...J.A.N." video on YT. Soul Skate Y'All!!!
Overpriced rubbish, bet hipsters will be paying top dollar for this!
don't call it rubbish just because you couldn't buy it when it came out. it's not rubbish, it's music. there is much more rubbish out there just switch on radio
I love that despite his loathing of the record, he opted for two stars. Just how much bile gets reserved for a one star release?
It`s not any rubbish, it´s music, not more, not less, but the feeling you hear that piece of recording maybe brings you a little bit further, maybe a little bit backwards. It´s you're choice.
$80? gonna need a repress fam at some point fam
Great record. The call-and-response vocals on the song "No" remind me of Dancer ‎– "The 7 Signs" from 1990.
Another £50 Moodymann record that was a little disappointing. The only recent (last 5 years) release which lived up to the quality of his early releases was Det.Riot and that was an easy one to get hold of and was in shops months after release (maybe still is), the last 5 or 6 releases I've ended up paying £50 a few days after release as they disappeared instantly. The early releases (say to about KDJ30) were always in easy supply for months after. I guess this limited release business is just a way of hiding the fact that he's not as good as he used to be.
If you don't like them, why do you buy them, let alone pay £50 for them?
Nah, not the case. This album is class from top to bottom. Gets heavy rotation on the decks and in the car, and doesn't get tired. Moodymann's got plenty of ideas. The scarcity is frustrating, but the music is fresh. Don't confuse the two.
People. Stop creating a new release because you got a bonus record. It's rediculous. I got a bonus as well. But it did not change the actual Mmodymann LP. The album is still the same. All you're doing is creating confusion.
Yeah, it's obvious, not a mispress or a separate release, bonus tings and that.
What he said, it's all the same release not re-issues as stated in the other entries, discogs please correct them
It's seems stupid to me to list the bonus 12's as a separate editions of the "Moodymann" release. These seem to have been randomly selected and are not so important from a collector's/discography point of view. Going by the comments from the release page, there were a number of random selections -- I for example received a copy of Analog live in my set, another person claims to have received a copy of Moody's remix of Daft Punk's Get Lucky - these are not separateeditions of thde album and to say otherwise can be misleading and over-inflate the value of this set. Koval - to answer your question the unnamed tracks pertain to the bonus 12 in whic was released more than a decade ago and the tracks were unnamed. KDJ just probably has some surplus stock that he wanted to clear out!
I completely agree. Well put.
I agree. These are separate releases included as a 'bonus' and are not part of CAT# KDJ ‎- KDJ 44.There should only be ONE 2x12" entry for KDJ - KDJ 44.
He says he has at least 6(? probably more) albums worth of material in his vaults just sitting around.
I agree with this. There should be only one release listed for the LP. The bonuses are just that - a bonus. It doesnt make it a different release.
Probably no one else will care but anybody else think this should have been released as a 2xCD? An ultrashort version of Freeki Muthafucka is weak!
also seems to be missing a lot from the digital release
CD came in today from HMV Japan. So glad it was not a digipak! The cd's the same as the MP3 version - a nice companion to the vinyl. I can't believe how fast the vinyl price inflated - what fools we mortals be!. While I have mixed feelings about the cover art -- this is a good long player on both vinyl and cd. KDJ can be proud of this addition to his catalogue.
Top notch new Moodymann LP, constantly wandering back on the turntable, many good tunes, favourite is probably "Radio", closely followed by "Come 2 Me", "Girl" also kicks ass off course. "Lyk U Used 2" is fantastic, very consistent, has just the right vibe to it, luckily not disappointing at all.
I agree. Great album. I love Sloppy Cosmic
Just bought the CD version from Juno. Has about twice as many tracks - and based on the review in The Wire appears to be a continuous mix.
kashleet Great point. Its an awesome fucking album, once again from Kenny Dixon Jr, one that can hold its head high amongst his established elite back catalogue. For me, "No" is some low slung, deep arse house music voodoo magic, it's repetitive groove just grinds you into submission. But the point still has to be made, what an absolute genius move showering most buyers with bonus 12"s……just enhances his already legendary reputation. Nuff said
After scrolling through 73 "reviews", none talks about the music!Another great great release from KDJ, this one laced with groovy blaxploitation vibes.Definitely one of those records you wanna listen through & through, "Lyk U Used 2", and "Hold it Down" are my jams RIGHT NOW but, like with all his albums, that will evolve over repeated listening."Sloppy Cosmic" with Funkadelic is another gem, gets even better if you're stoned. Artwork on this is cheesy as hell, but guess it goes with that 70s Funk influence. Gotta love that Popeye's inner sleeve. :^D"I don't make music for the masses to dance to, i make music for the small majority that listens." Thank you again, Kenny Dixon Jr.PS I bought mine for $35 (w/shipping), and it does not come with anything but the 2 records, a promo flyer for next Andres album, and a poster with the album artwork. In case you wanted to know. :)
I got a copy of KDJ 23A in mine as a bonus ball. Can't get the smile off my face.
Cd version doesn't include "Restart" which is exclusive to the vinyl version.
mine came w/ a Joy Pt. II record and a poster of Dj Sneak wincing away a set-up assistant for the upcoming dj. couldn't be happier.
Mine came with a free copy of Why Do U Feel, which I already have but a nice surprise. (And it sells for c. $50 on discogs!)
Cached link
It was originally sold on but removed for some unknown reason.
Does anyone know if all copies come with an additional record?
i got KDJ 15 Moodymann - Amerika
No...mine has no extra copy of whatever. :/But I got a poster of the gatefold artwork. Since nobody else mentioned it here yet... Could that be the extra goodie for my copy?
Tisicai thats where
its floating around online now ;)
Mine came with KDJ 28c Analog:Live from Crosstalk INTL. I bought another copy from Play De Record but it didnt have any bonus.
KDJ 05 for me. But weird one, got 4 tracks where there are originally 3, and the "Lake Shore Drive" is pretty different. Stocked anyway!
Moody famously doesn't release the same masters for every record pressing. Someone's KDJ 5 may sound different than another person's or have different tracks on it.
Billy Granson
thats the second pressing. its totally different from the first. but nice score none the less!
Mightdragon You sure it's not this one?
Mine came with fuck all. But it's a great album!
mystic2975 you [email protected]#$ing scored big time!!!
KDJ-23 for me too! Very nice! Didn't know about the extras when I bought the LP from Hardwax. What a pleasant surprise! Though a Shades of Jae test pressing might have instantly killed me...First thought this album was overcharged but with this approach of secret giveaways it's really worth the money. It's a really cool idea and also helps to empty your storage room. Hope more labels adapt this in the future! Wonder how many people now by several copies to get all the extras though! ;)
No extra in mine :(
Got mine from Amoeba with a Shades of Jae test press hand written in black sharpie.
Wow! A Shades of Jae test press!? Moodymann is so great he makes me wanna cry thinking of how much he supports his fans, his community, and good music.
Just received mine from Halcyon in brooklyn--sealed w/ additional KDJ 28-C in LP sleeve.
Mine came with Princes actual Raspberry Beret
are you serious??
Oh yeah? You should head up to London to Christie's and see if they'll get you a good price. Or you can swap it for a ticket to see Prosumer.
Mine came with a promo copy of daft punk get Lucky with a moodymann remix!!
Yeah right. And mine came with a moodymann remix of paranoid by Black Sabbath.
Now that was real lucky! Mine's came with a copy of Analog Live ( one of my least favorite KDJ tracks) . Getting a copy of JAN would be lotto for me!
Wow how does that sound? Soundclips online anywhere?
Mine was sealed with "The thief that stole my sad days….ya blessing me". Pre-purchased of Bleep, didn't risk trying to get it of Juno!
Just receive mine with the extra ep I Like It from 1994... I think I am lucky!
Sealed copy from Chemical Records ... No extra vinyl, just a free chemical records calendar. Not really a bonus but I'll take the album.
KDJ2 bonus for me - how lucky :)
rly ?
Anyone else think the music on "Sunday Hotel" sounds like Carl Craig's remix of "Relevee"?
Nothing personal
Haha so is it like the lottery? Can't wait to get mine to see if it has any gold!
Moody doesn't press up a lot. I'm guessing of the few thousand maybe 100 or so randomly got an extra EP.
fuck yeah! so good, especially as I got an extra 12 in mine I didn't already have.
My sealed copy from Redeye came without any extra vinyl, just the poster and an insert with tracklist and also info about the upcoming Andres album. For those people lucky enough to get old KDJ vinyl with theirs - were your copies sealed?
I wanted a spare copy in any case, I'll be playing the shit out of this....any extra vinyl would only be a bonus.
seamusThanks for the info. Just ordered another copy, let's see if i get lucky! With that money you could just have bought the moody 12 you were after.
Thanks for the info. Just ordered another copy, let's see if i get lucky!
can not believe it, sold out in a couple hours on juno. guess I'm still yet to own moody wax...
No extra black gold for me too, but in fact... this double is already a gift from Kenny. Thanks, man ! 313 !!!
An extra ep here and there, retailers asking their own prices, fact is that the man can never do right. What is always right though is the legendary music that comes out of KDJ each and every time. And the biggest surprise to me was to see a small note in my package announcing the new Andres album. Man am I looking forward to that
got mine just now, kdj5 added bonus, got it from crosstalk intl
You lucky bastards. No extra EP in mine. Ordered from Phonica.
nah, wasn't sealed. I called them… they said they'd spoken to the distributors and it was random… few had them, few didn't
*slightly open
i bet u those fools took it out of the album..i would call them up
exactly the same here, they have been checking things!!
Yeah, me too. :-( Was yours sealed? Mine wasn't....
no extra ep in my slightly openend sealed copy from Angel Records either .. too bad :)
Just got mine from Ragged Records. Had KDJ 12 in it. Moody is the best!
bought mine in RubaDub Glasgow had a copy of KDJ 23A / 23B in it!
Just picked mine up from and it had the double pack + KDJ 5
Ditto, got two copies, neither had a bonus record, just the poster and 2XLP. Great album though, still very satisfied.
Whiteseeker copy from VU just arrived and there was no extras in there at all
came out UK 10th Jan
what, pushed back a month, damn.
merry Christmas to me
