Neil Young is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records. Some sources place the album's release date on January 22, 1969, while other sources have the release date as Young's 23rd birthday, November 12, 1968. It was then partially remixed and re-released in November 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200. Decade is a compilation album by Canadian-American musician Neil Young, originally released in 1977 as a triple album, now available on two compact discs. It contains 35 of Young's songs recorded between 1966 and 1976, among them five tracks that had been unreleased up to that point. Midway through he fired drummer Kenny Buttrey and brought on David Crosby and Graham Nash to help out with the vocals, but it did little to help him mentally cope with the pressure and monotony of life on the road. After embarking on a music career in the 1960s, he moved to Los Angeles, joining Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and others. Through his career most of Young's work has been recorded for and distributed by Reprise Records, that company owned by Warner Bros. Records since 1963 and now part of the Warner Music Group. The only exceptions are Young's five albums for Geffen Records in the 1980s, which were once distributed by Warner, but are now distributed by Universal. Neil Young has spent over 50 years writing songs. But even with 35 albums, there are a ton of tracks that have fallen by the wayside over the years. Some are from albums that never came out, while others were only played live a handful of times before disappearing completely. Neil Young wrote songs at such a frantic pace in mid-1970s that he couldn't possibly release them all, even though he was averaging an album a year.
