About Album

Bleach is the debut studio album by the American rock band Nirvana, released on June 15, 1989 by Sub Pop. After the release of its debut single Love Buzz on Sub Pop in November 1988, Nirvana practiced for two to three weeks in preparation for recording a full-length album. The main recording sessions for Bleach took place at Reciprocal Recording in Seattle, Washington between December 1988 and January 1989. Back to Music. Released: 1989. This video discusses the first releases by Nirvana and their independent label, SubPop. It is to be considered the first half of a two-part video, free to Nirvana Bleach Blew, Floyd the Barber and more. 13 tracks 43:51. Bleach is the debut album by the American grunge band Nirvana. It was released on June 15, 1989 through the independent record label Sub Pop. Bleach originally sold a mere 30,000 copies, but following the enormous success of the band's second album, Nevermind 1991, fans discovered Nirvana's obscure debut. It has since been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, making it one of only two albums released on Sub Pop to have received platinum certification. Downer Continuing our legacy of reminding people Nirvana had a record before Nevermind, on November 22, 2011 Sub Pop Records presents a non-deluxe, affordably-priced, single-LP version of Bleach, Nirvanas debut album. Bleach was the debut album by Nirvana. It was released June 15, 1989 by the label Sub Pop. Most of the songs feature themes based on life in Aberdeen, Washington, U. a small working class town where songwriter Kurt Cobain grew up. Lyrically the album is less surreal and nonsensical than much of what came after. Musically the album is heavily influenced by early Black Sabbath, the heavy dirge rock of The Melvins and Mudhoney, and the hardcore of Black Flag and Minor Threat. Kurt has even said that. On June 15, 1989, Nirvana issued their debut disc 'Bleach. Initially going with the working title Too Many Humans , Nirvana eventually settled on Bleach as the moniker for the disc after Cobain spotted an AIDS prevention poster advising heroin addicts to bleach their works before using. Once the album arrived, only one single was released - a cover of the Shocking Blue song Love Buzz. The cover received mixed reactions from the original band, as Klassje van der Wal stated he was happy that Novoselic had cited him as a bass god, but guitarist Robbie Van Leeuwen was not as thrilled. Покупайте и продавайте винил и компакт-диски, формируйте. Released June 15, 1989. Bleach Tracklist. Blew Lyrics. Nirvanas 1989 debut album lived almost exclusively in the underground Seattle circuit until it was plucked out of obscurity following Nirvanas breakthrough in 1991. This early album is more raw than Nevermind, heavier than In Utero, and features a greater metal influence than Nirvanas later work. Kurts songwriting during this period is marked by a decidedly non-commercial sound, in contrast to the radio-friendliness of Nevermind. About a Girl is one of the few pop-sensible songs on the album. Lyrically, Kurt focuses on dark subject-matter: e. depression, alienation, and morbid introspe

Founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers before recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990. Characterized by their punk aesthetic, Nirvana's fusion of pop melodies with noise, combined with their themes of abjection and social alienation, made them hugely popular during their short tenure. Though they dissolved in 1994 after the death of Cobain, their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock and roll culture. Smells L. And yet, Nirvanas 1991 single didnt just mark an unlikely breakthrough for the Seattle trio, it upended popular culture in ways weve havent seen since. Punk became pop, grunge became global vernacular, industry walls became rubble, and frontman Kurt Cobain became the reluctant voice of a generation in need of catharsis, all seemingly overnight. Though his 1994 suicide would see the band dissolve just as abruptly as theyd arrived, their story is now rocknroll parable and their influence still felt-as punks, icons, Hall of Famers, purveyors of haunting melody and often terrifying noise

Vinainl
This sure seems like the copy I own however the matrix Also has 20125.1 (3) on side A and B Also has 21225.2 (3)This was From HMV
funike
Is this vinyl dark green and transparent? Might have found a bargain but don't want to buy a counterfeit
Mariwyn
I own the original UK pressing and also the 2002 CD remastered. Both version sound better than this remastered vinyl. Specially the original LP. From there i get all the real dirtiness of the album. In there the album has "Sludge metal" elements because the guitars and the drums sound terryfing. Here the sound is much more clean and the guitars has less deformation. The album sound more "Alternative rock" and im not appreciate that. Its one sterile version for me. Dont get me wrong.. The prerssing is good the packaging also great and the bonus live amazing material BUT this remastered is the worst version of the album i have heard today.. I know many people dont get the original but i suggest them to listen the original album from some Flac vinyl rip outhere. Still you can notice the difference..
lifestyle
Horrible pressing, very cheap lightweight vinyl. I bought two copies and both had smudged vinyl. Put it on and the weakest vinyl I’ve played yet. Nirvana is not this quiet. Spend the extra money for the deluxe 180 gram version, Sub Pop really cheaped out on this
KiddenDan
I know that this is a cash in by Newbury comics, but I believe this is a good quality pressing as I have got a copy myself. Sounds superb when played loud. ????????
Saithinin
Anyone else order this from SRC Vinyl and have surface marks all over either side? Thankfully it doesn't impact play.
Skyway
Any record you play is hurting the stylus to an extent since it is an imperfect medium to begin with. At $40-90 a cartridge, I'll take my chances.
Lo◘Ve
It doesn't? Oh yes it does. And hurts your stylus too.
Steel balls
Feels like the 300 pressing might not be totally accurate given numbers listed here. Would leave c50 unaccounted for.
ᵀᴴᴱ ᴼᴿᴵᴳᴵᴻᴬᴸ
Awesome pressing. Great dynamics. The bass is huge - when Negative Creep started it almost 'blew' me off the sofa. The live recording is just as impressive. This is why I love vinyl.
Mikarr
I've got this pressing too. It have the same matrix number of this release https://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-Bleach/release/1996670.
Manazar
My friends picked me up a copy of this from The Museum of Pop Culture and its numbered 1071/1400 in silver sharpie. Anyone else have a numbered edition? I am not seeing one here.
Modred
Very cool pressing as this has 2 extra tracks than the standard version. Big Cheese and Downer, are on this lp, in USA, thoae 2 songs are included on the compilation lp 'Incesticide'. A must have for any Nirvana collectior.
Best West
i do not see anything about the same catalogue number but both lp on white wax, anyone got it?
Viashal
how you going to remaster from the og tapes if the og tapes are up in smoke?
Small Black
They didn't. Only Nevermind did. The tapes for In Utero and Bleach were stored at Gold Mountain.
CONVERSE
It's weird that it says "Remastered" because the sound is identical to the first press CD. And i did compare.
Alsardin
I went to a toy show once in San Jose and a copy of this was for sale at $250 (i'm pretty sure the poster was in there). It was more than I could afford but it was nice to be able to hold it in my hands.
Drelahuginn
sounds great, you can hear the raw vocals and solid drums sounds. Guitar and bass are mixed well also.
Aver
Sounds great on my 1990s Yamaha receiver and my 1980s technics turntable. quiet in dead wax...superclear on the tracks...this 2009 RM Re has a bit more bass than my 2002 Sub Pop reissue that wasn't remastered. Not sure which I prefer. I was super happy that SP gave the download card of 3 formats which included Flac. The LP didn't advertise that so that was a bonus.
Raniconne
Beautiful vinyl colour, fitting perfect to the cover sleeve. Good pressing also. And a fine live bonus. Nice rerelease!
skyjettttt
This is a poor pressing. Quite muffled. Had skips too. I expect better from Sub Pop.
elektron
One of the best debut albums of the late 1990s.
Impala Frozen
Umm... it was released in 1989 by the way lol
Faebei
The artwork is noticeably blurry, especially when compared to any of the earlier cassette releases.
Buge
The printed text on the cassette is more of a dull white than light blue on my copy.
Ylal
siete sicuri che questa è la matrice? perche ho una copia identica con matrice della prima stampa white uk con MPO cancellata
Yayrel
This is my favorite Nirvana album. It's not quite metal, it's not quite punk. Heavy yet melodic. Experimental yet pop. Simple yet complicated. Unsurpassed raw energy that rocks really f**kin hard. Anthemic, nihilistic and just straight up brutal. Full of beauty and darkness. Full of heart. This album is in a league of its own. I can't think of another album that sounds anything like this set of songs. It's truly original in my eyes. And for that reason it will always be my favorite Nirvana album.
Thetalune
Just one image and one Matrix/Runout. Mine is a Sonopress G-3304/ GED24433 E 5. I also have blue sticker with the logo's of GEFFEN, MCA, GRP on it.
one life
I have the same issue with same description / matrix and booklet but on black vinyl and not numbered.. Any idea ?
Amarin
That would be the 2009 repress/remaster sir . . .
Kiaile
Sub Pop sent me a case of these to promote a show but then got in touch and asked if I could send it back, and I did.
Mazuzahn
No you didn't!!! Any regrets? You had gold and gave it away?
Wrathmaster
This is a recent unofficial release. Not an original from 1989.
Monam
This copy sounds better than the original I own. Great pressing.
Cointrius
I do not own the original ,, great to know Thank you
Grinin
Does the nearly perfect counterfeit also have the same runout?
Phallozs Dwarfs
No. It’s missing the MPO. Just make sure you ask
net rider
No pop or other disturbing sounds. The vinyl is really quiet, but the remaster is awfull compare to the original CD issue. It is like they are playing behind a door. And I need to push the volume up to have a decent level. Even for 10€ it is not a good version to buy.
Phain
I'm not sure this cd is from the year 1995 reissueno extra code on barcode area
Kendis
SP 34 (2015) Tape was the only left version for a non-remaster issue of Bleach.0000035E8X4 SP 34 (2015) Tape Versus Remastered CD of Bleach:The Tape sounds natural and non-boosted while the Remastered CD have loudness + peaks are strident.I'm now certain that this tape is the non-remaster.Grab 2 Tapes of this while you still can.
Roram
Very interesting Version of this one ! But awesome album !
Xava
Are there copies of this pressing with a barcode on cover?
Ferri - My name
No barcode on the back on the the first 3 pressings
Lanadrta
I believe i have one with a barcode on the back.
Marelyne
The second U.S. pressing on black vinyl does not have a barcode on the back.
Rrinel
Same pressing. With poster of Jason Everman. Listen to it all the time!
Deeroman
If you look in the edit comments someone stated that they contacted Sub Pop, and they confirmed some records from the 2XLP got in the single LP sleeve. FWIW, I bought my copy at Amoeba in San Francisco, and it had a Sub Pop color vinyl sticker on the sleeve, which would imply they were aware of the issue before shipping. Doesn't sound like a mispress to me
lolike
My version is black cover with blue letters, and a light blue vinyl... Matrix Side A: DMX 71211 (R)2B (The B sits on top of an A)Matrix Side B: DMX 71212 (R)2C
Coidor
I have heard this album played at a VERY serious collector. I only wish I had the money to purchase a copy. If you are in love with music, if you dig Nirvana, and if a grand isn't a whole lot of money to you, it is most definitely recommended.
Natety
my copy has no sticker on jewelcase, but comes with Geffen MCA 4-pages insert "other best sellers at mid price" coded MID1
Foxanayn
This version sounds great. Very clear vocals, punchy drums and bass and a good midrange. Dead quiet pressing, flat, good edition from RTI
JoJogar
I agree. I was about to sell my vinyl as I bought the 2LP deluxe edition but it doesn't sound as good as this one.
Shistus
Sounds really nice! Drums and vocals are great! Although, a tad bass heavy...
Clodebd
Very good press ! Excellent sound ! A must have for nirvana fan.
Alien
It says "Red" I bought a red swirl from Steve Turner's then girlfriend Caryl. Is this what you mean?
JoJosho
There is a solid red one on sale on Ebay as of March 8th 2017.
Sharpbinder
I'm not very happy with the sound of this record either. This is making me leery of re-issues in general. I think I will just look for the original releases instead.
Gadar
Love Buzz is missing, but it appears in the linear notes on the back cover.. .WTF?
Agagamand
Wow the drums sound amazing on this pressing. Dead quiet too.
Diredefender
Awsome copy sounds great and love the color very happy with this purchase
Malodred
numark15 Awsome copy sounds great and love the color very happy with this purchase Yes the sound quality is excellent, l was quite impressed
Cells
You can still buy the 2009 Sub Pop version that this is a straight copy of.
Cashoutmaster
Great album! I own the UK version or Europe version not sure which from CSD but this version isn't listed here.
FailCrew
This doesn't belong to the official releases.Someone please put it to the unofficial list.
Zehaffy
Great reissue of this classic LP!!! It really takes me back to when I first heard Bleach! This sounds great, and an awesome color!!!
Faehn
Just got the black version. Shit! It sounds fantastic.Clear sounding from drums and vocals. What a mastering job!Grab a copy now before it gets too pricey!
Vudogal
There is also a blue swirl vinyl on site, not only black.
Uyehuguita
how does it sound compared to the previous newbury release?
Peras
Don't make a fool of yourself and buy into these ridiculous listings of $100 that are currently up here on Discogs. There are plenty of these still available on Newburycomics.com at the retail price of $39.99. Buy smart!
Levion
Ha Ha! I agree... All these ltd edition, exclusive release BS is just that... BS. Don't buy in to it full stop. Don't get me wrong I love vinyl and have a UK original copy on normal old boring black vinyl but it sounds great so why bother with some over-priced, instantly expensive collectable gimmick... (just my 2c).. Oh, and one more thing... STOP REISSUING BLEACH FFS! :)
Kefym
That is a valid point. I'm sorry to hear that.
Jack
And do you think 39.99$ is cheap for another reissue of this?Limited and expensive, that's the way it goes for retailers like Newbury.
Aedem
One problem is, i tried to buy from Newburycomics.com but they do not have a shipping to my country :( thats the problem!
Jazu
Amen. Screw ZJHartley and any other seller like him. May their attempts to flip readily available records for outrageous prices result in the sweetest kind of karma.
RUsich155
This is a joke right? Bleach already had enough novelty pressings without the first batch from Newbury, (which were quite frankly, done very poorly). Now they want to do a second batch of two new colours that you might not have yet? How embarrassing Newbury... just cashing in one more time.
Fomand
This is also the deluxe edition 2xLP, with the 2014 press from Newbury being only the 1 LP. The added concert disc + picture book makes this one worthwhile in my eyes. I recently got it during the 30% sale, so I'm not too disappointed.
Celak
Ok, guess I am wrong on this one. It irritates me when an album is over-pressed for the sake of cashing in but I guess if people are still wanting it... I'm in the small percentage that doesn't. Rather they spent their time and money on a new release.
caster
If these were legitimately cut from the master tapes and pressed at RTI, they should be the best copy of this release. Based on the high sticker price, I would assume this version should be of the best quality. Only time will tell.
Thomeena
Cover sticker indicates run of 1500 but only 1400 shipped. Hand numbers on back are of 1400.
Yndanol
if 4 copies exist. how do 17 people have it.
Cenneel
Bacause you don't need to have the record to put that you got i in the page lol :)
Malara
Hahah! My assumption is that there isn't any difference between the test presses for the first press and subsequent pressings thus everyone with test pressing thinks its from the first press.
Golkree
i have this lp along with the poster. it also has what appears to be a press kit with a glossy black & white photo of the band as well as a 9 page stapled together booklet sub pop seems to have put together. i want to sell it on discogs, but i think they will take it down, as they don't have any mention of these extras.
Ueledavi
Owners. Does it sound good?Please!
Fearlesshunter
I have the black vinyl version & the production is excellent. I think this album is way underestimated. Content wise this is the best value for $ package around with the second vinyl of previously unreleased live tracks.
Armin
I seen this coloured version from newbury, but. "Man, paying $39 for a coloured vinyl with unknown mastering process?" No way!Glad to know it sounds good and more glad to know i paid much less for this release instead o! LOL
Pipet
I have the white version of this Nirvana - Bleach and it sounds very good. You most certainly feel the love buzz....

i have a black bleach l.p that has the exact sane matrix as this one,but does not contain any poster or singles club form,im guess ing the original owner kept that stuff.also i think it has an isbn number i don't remember.

Great sound to album. Nice of Sub Pop to include track downloads in .FLAC, .ALAC, and .MP3 (320). They did not limit me to one choice, and I downloaded all 3 for various devices.
Freaky Hook
I have a copy on blue/clear marbled.
SlingFire
It sounds great!

This color variation is generally found with different shades of purple swirly patterns and marbling, but some have also been seen with streaks or blobs of brown marbling, and are very rare and sought after. In 1992, with the sudden success of "Nevermind", "Bleach" received a "color vinyl" 3rd pressing release from Sub Pop. Supposedly 500 (or less) pieces were created for each of these color variations; Purple, Bottle Green, Turquoise (known as light green/light marble green, many of these have been seen with no “color vinyl” indicators at all), Blue (the green "color vinyl" sticker is known to be attached to the front left of the sleeve as opposed to the right), Red Translucent, Raspberry (known as pink marble), and Bubble Gum Pink (also known as pink marble, but these come with a white "color vinyl" sticker). Translucent Pink was another variation, and is the most commonly found with a rumored 1,500 pieces created for that specific color (once and awhile they will have a stray milky white streak running through them). Lastly would be the highly coveted Red/White Splatter vinyl combo with a Blue 7" Sliver single, a confirmed 500 where created, with each piece baring it’s own numbered sticker (many of these were exported to the U.K.). Then there is the rejected "Iceberg" color vinyl, which is in it's own category, never meant to be circulated commercially due to it being too close in resemblance to the original 1st pressing on White vinyl. I read possibly 100-200 were created, but likely less than 100 exist. As far as pressing quality goes, and for whatever reason (most likely a lack of quality control, and the need to make a quick buck), all color variations seem to have various pressing flaws (mostly "no fill"). The Bubble Gum pinks play with a wavy off-centered A side (a defect that also occurred with “Beat Happening’s” Grey colored vinyl version of “Dreamy”). Obviously these were made in a hurry to capitalize on Nirvana's new found success, and are more of a collectible than they are an Audiophile's dream.
Hbr
It is possible of course that other color variations may have had a white “color vinyl” sticker, but it has not been confirmed. I have tracked down and purchased a lot of these variations still sealed, and only have ever found the “Bubblegum Pink” variation to have come with the white sticker adhered. However, I have observed a lot of sellers over the years switch their sleeves around when selling a used “color vinyl” copy on eBay, etc. I have even witnessed sellers placing an original 1st press “White” in a “color vinyl” sleeve with the white sticker intact.
Danial
Thanks for the detailed info. You mention the bubble-gum pink came with the white sticker. I've also heard one (or more) of the green vinyl also came with white sticker. Do you know if this is the case, or if any other colors came with the white sticker?
Quphagie
Hi! I need some help. Would you happen to know which version of the Sliver 7" was included with the red splatter LP? Cheers, Dries.
Whitescar
As a sympathizer to the 'vana's earlier material, I have to champion this release. Amalgamates a time, a place and a smell, a smell before the smell of teens. Lisa Orth's layout will always get a medal from me and throw some bone shaman's relics to the maestro Dale Crover for his skin-work."Negative Creep" leaves no shirt untorn.
Danrad
I have had the original US and UK pressing along with the most recent reissues from Sub Pop. I have to say that these Waterfront pressings are quite noticeably the best in quality of all the pressings. Hard to describe, perhaps a sharper bass track throughout? The low end is far superior in my opinion, if you are looking for an audiophile copy then a Waterfront copy is your best bet, (only the official ones of course, be wary of the unofficial reissues).
Kanrad
Sub Pop pulls out all the stops for this "20th Ann." deluxe double vinyl edition of "Bleach", giving it the elbow room it deserves in the band’s legacy. Attention to detail seems to have been the mission at Sub Pop headquarters, from the white vinyl with dark smudge impurities (ode to the original 1000 white vinyl 1st pressings), right down to the heavyduty packaging, with a huge record sized picture booklet of the early days. “What about the mastering?” you might say, well, purists might not be thrilled that the 88'/89' raw low-fi punk production gets traded for studio perfection here, and there is something to be said for the nostalgia of playing an older copy of your favorite record, but playback is sturdier and warmer on this remaster, vs. the top heavy, barren sounding original (as an added bonus, this “20th” pressing is suprisinly quiet, unlike my surface noisy 89’ 1st press). Krist's bass is robust, but still deep and muddy, Kurt’s vocals (wild screams) are still untamed (but a little buried), and Chad’s drumming is still clumsily charming, but bigger. In general, the overall overhaul (especially on the low end) seems to bring out Led Zepplin's influence on the album, making it obvious and undeniable...Sub Pop doesn't forget to remind you just how raw and virul the band was by giving this album a fancy remaster, to understand Nirvana’s Bleach, is to hear them playing it live, the second disc (which is the best part of this set), "LIVE, February 9, 1990 - Pine Street Theatre - Portland, OR" absolutely represents Nirvana for what they were; raw, virul, and relentless, making this Deluxe package a “keeper”.
Ubrise
Great review. Got the white one and pretty much agree with everything. The low end is thick and gnarly as I ever heard it for this album but fits better in mix than my old CD copy of this which is all I can compare it to. Couldn’t be happier with this!
Ballagar
just bought it from a seller on amazon,he said to me that he had both white and black versions, none had stickers,so still a mystery how to differenciate black from white without opening the shrinkwarp
Made-with-Love
Well, I guess the joke's on me since I didn't listen to the remaster before ordering this because it sounds fucking terrible.
FreandlyMan
I have the white vinyl, super cool. :D
Umsida
Seller and buyers: Please note that the sticker (on the shrink wrap) is the ONLY way to tell if the version you have is white or black vinyl. The release numbers are the same. If it's white vinyl, again, it will say so on the sticker in the upper left corner. I have received black vinyl twice now when trying to order white. Please pay attention. Thank you.
Fearlessdweller
bought this brand new and it skips through the first 3 songs....
Cesar
I just picked this album up too and the first few tracks skip.
Zugar
There are 2 versions, a transculent pink and a marble pink (this one is more rare than the transculent one).
Rasmus
I don't have any reason to challenge the date of the live photo on this version
Velellan
Bleach is their best album in my opinion. Like most people, I was introduced to the band via Nevermind. I hated the band at first, because I hated Smells Like Teen Spirit. But I soon grew to enjoy them when I realized that they were unlike all the other thrash/grunge bands on MTV at the time. Bleach bears that out. Here was a band almost completely unconcerned with its image. They didn't care about being mysterious or putting on some pretentiously dark, gothic facade. Musically, they were every bit as competent as their contemporaries, but Cobain's songwriting was much stronger.Bleach captures a moment in the life of a down and dirty garage band. It's just some guys jamming like crazy, making some great music.
Frey
I'm not sure but isn't this a 180? It feels kind of heavy, haven't weight it.
Warianys
I think this is the first cassette version. I don't have any reason to challenge the date of the live photo on this version, but is there any evidence that the Caroline version came out before the beginning of 1990? The following could be interpreted in a number of ways, but overall an indie-first interpretation seems more plausible:(1) The white-vinyl LP came out in mid-89. How quickly would Caroline have picked up the cassette-rights for press-and-distribute?(2) [This] indie Sub Pop typography for the front of the j-card is identical to what's used on the labels of both this and the Caroline versions. (3) Using the LP jacket as the front graphic with the titles below is old-school/cheesy. Why would Sub Pop revert to an inferior and obviously old-fashioned design?(4) The drum-kit photo is far more compelling. Why would Sub Pop replace it with one that does little more than duplicate the front image? (Did Kurt complain?)(5) The indie Sub Pop printing on the black cassette shell is blotchy, and the cassette box is old-fashioned black rather than clear. Caroline is sharper with clear shell and clear case. (6) The Geffen cassette uses the same typography and inside photo as the Caroline version. I could imagine Caroline not giving its own cassette artwork back to Sub Pop, but how, then would the Caroline-only version have reached Geffen later on?etc. etc.
Funky
My vinyl is white. I prefer the remaster over the original release.
Lucam
This is probably a stoopid question but anyone know how many copies were pressed on black vinyl??My guess is hundreds of thousands??
INwhite
While total sales of Bleach reach seven figures, that includes reissues that came after they'd hit it big with "Nevermind". Back in '89/90 I imagine they must have sold probably 50,000 tops in the UK.
Jorad
Original August 1989 British release on Tupelo including 300 copies pressed on white vinyl, 2000 copies on dark lime green vinyl, and black vinyl.
Usanner
This 13-track version was WITHDRAWN by Warner UK after a request by Sub Pop US. 2000 copies were pressed, before being amended to the more normal 11 track release under cat number 9878-40034-1, also on white vinyl...check the sticker on the front cover
Grillador
I have a Nirvana bleach (white) with barcode and 1989 Sub pop and it has only 11 tracks and it has Made in England on back under Sub Pop barcode 9878400341 Does anyone know what press this is or any info.
Chilldweller
what year did this happen in I am guessing 2002?
Burisi
I have this album (same barcode, etc, but the sticker on the cover states, "Back To Vinyl - Nirvana's First Album On Coloured Vinyl".) but in CLEAR vinyl. I've been led to believe that this is a rare mispressed copy, created during the white record's manufacture. Input from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Kinashand
They were released around the same time. Heres the press: https://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-Bleach/release/5299151
Modimeena
The matrix info currently listed here (SP-34-A GOLDEN) is from the 2002 reissue mastered by John Golden. This one (2nd press) should have the same matrix (with 'ch' for Carol Hibbs) as the 1st press.
Thordibandis
So how do you differentiate the 2nd press from the 1st if there is no 2nd press poster?
Dianaghma
All the 1996 Japanese releases bar From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah, on vinyl for Nirvana (US) are marked re issue on this site... Now stop me if i'm wrong but I beleive these are the 1st presses Japan ever issued of the Nirvana (US) albums. Any comments?
Mildorah
That was my impression. I thought these were 1st Pressings.
Phalaken
The first 20.000 are limited on white vinyl, the next batch will be standard black..so it will might take years until they run out of the white ones ;)
Mitars Riders
On the back insert, my copy has the words "Sub Pop is a registered trademark of Sub Records. www.subpop.com" added to it on the last line next to where the address is. Mine also has C (copyright logo) P 1989 on it, not C and P 1989. There is a 2002 US LP version listed on here that has that same info on it as well. Sub Pop probably re-pressed the cd's too and i'm guessing that from then on the subsequent pressings probably have that new info added to them.
DABY
My insert also advertises subpop.comHere's my matrix: [Specialty 'S' Logo] IR SP 34-2 SRC##01 M1S1Is this worth making a new release page?

How much are these selling for now? I was lucky enough to buy a copy from the States about 5 yrs ago for just over $500.00. just curious

One sold in March, 2018 for nearly $2,500. : https://blog.discogs.com/en/top-30-most-expensive-items-sold-in-discogs-marketplace-for-march-2018/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=dashboard&utm_campaign=Top_30_2018_05_08

Well... according to the "recently sold" above, they're going for $200.00 in VG condition.
Jarortr
Bought mine for $7.99 new at (now-defunct) Cellophane Square in Seattle. Who knew they were going to blow up like they did?
Tejar
Good lord, twice I could have bought this for $60.00 when I was working at a record store in the mid 90s.
Reighbyra
You dont see them around much anymore.
GawelleN
Anyone know what this release was limited to? Can't seem to find any number around the net
shustrik
I don't know either. I thought it was more limited, but i keep seeing new ones in stock and for sale around $28.00 at the local record store that i go too. After i bought the only one, they re-stocked it.
Shem
This item is what Sub Pop released as the second pressing of the Bleach LP after the first attempt failed. (they tried for a second pressing of marbled white vinyl) It is limited to 2000 copies and includes a poster.
Elildelm
This is a counterfeit release. Bleach never came out on purple vinyl in the UK
Vivados
Yeah your right you have the Subpop (us) version. It's pressed in many colours. but the Tupelo (UK) version is never pressed in that colour. only black, white and green.
Felolak
Are you sure? I have a marbled purple vinyl copy, bought by myself at the time it came out. Bought it at the same time my mate got a dirty green copy, from the same shop. It's on Sub Pop (SP34), different record labels to the one shown and the sleeve rear is different too (no writing (barcode?) at top RHS, certainly no barcode on mine, Sub Pop logo centre bottom, "Kurdt Kobain" credited). Runout codes of; SP-34-A(B), L32926(X), Kdisc ch.Tracklist; A - Blew, Floyd the Barber, About a Girl, School, Love Buzz, Paper Cuts. B - Negative Creep, Scoff, Swap Meet, Mr. Moustache, Sifting.
Gaxaisvem
I have a copy on the Tupelo label pressed on red vinyl. I can't find anything out about it anywhere.
Runehammer
Luckily I wasn't. I paid $20 for it.

I have this. Think I paid quite a lot for it many years ago too. Looks like I was ripped off!

It is commonly mentioned that this album has been recorded for about ONLY 600 US Dollars, meaning that there's nothing to expect out of its sound quality and that it cannot compete with the "big" albums that were recorded for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The cost of recording this album and the time that it has been recorded in, to most people, immediately determines this album to be in a category of albums that cannot even be compared to albums like Metallica (that cost them millions and took a whole year to produce). That is an amateurish and snob viewpoint. Everything in the music depends not on money spent. Some brilliant works of art can be created in small amounts of time and with no big expenses. I do not mean that Bleach is one of these masterpieces, but I just imply that this information about recording cost and time should be abandoned, forgotten when evaluating an record. A record is a work of art and it's production costs should not overshadow itself.
Samulkis
Maybe I'm just looking at it from a whole different direction but I always took that as a sort of pride they had for the album like "hey check out this killer album we made on almost no money!..Take that Metallica "..lol..
Balladolbine
This is not an orginal release. Bleach never came out on Picture Disc
Alsantrius
I had to mature a little to really appreciate this cd. I bought it after Nevermind, and wasn't ready for the unpolished, raw emotion of it. Now I prefer to listen to it over Nevermind. Track 11, Sifting, is one of my favorite Nirvana songs. You can really hear the pain in Kurt Cobain's voice when he is screaming "preacher said, teacher said, don't have nothing for you". Sadly, this track was never a big hit and rarely played live, outshadowed by the soulful About A Girl, and more punk influenced School. Jason Everman was credited as playing 2nd guitar on the album. He actually did not, he just fronted the money to have them recorded so they put him on it. He did however play with them for a while at some of their shows.
