Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей is a compilation album released by Nirvana in 1992. Incesticide consists of demos, outtakes, and radio broadcast recordings. At the time, all of the material on Incesticide was circulating within fan communities albeit in lower quality. It was widely reported in the music press that the band wanted to offer fans a higher-quality alternative, but in the book Cobain Unseen, Charles R. Cross reveals that Kurt Cobain agreed to the release of this compilation because he was allowed complete. Album 1992 15 Songs. Rock 1992. embodies the free space of punk more than any Nirvana album: part outsider visual art, part punk fanzine, thrillingly raw. It arrived at the end of a batshit year for Cobain and Courtney Love, who were married that February, just over a month after Nevermind hit its zenith, knocking Michael Jackson out of the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts. Incesticide tells a different story: It forms a snapshot of Nirvana pre-Nevermind, the same band you see goofing around in a cha-cha line with Sonic Youth and dramatically eating grapes in David Markeys classic tour doc 1991: The Year Punk Broke

Founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers before recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990. Characterized by their punk aesthetic, Nirvana's fusion of pop melodies with noise, combined with their themes of abjection and social alienation, made them hugely popular during their short tenure. Though they dissolved in 1994 after the death of Cobain, their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock and roll culture. Smells L. And yet, Nirvanas 1991 single didnt just mark an unlikely breakthrough for the Seattle trio, it upended popular culture in ways weve havent seen since. Punk became pop, grunge became global vernacular, industry walls became rubble, and frontman Kurt Cobain became the reluctant voice of a generation in need of catharsis, all seemingly overnight. Vivados
Quiet dead press with a very good base and clear vocal. Impressed with the quality of all 4 sides. Highly recommended.
Black_Hawk_Down.
Fabulous sound on this one. I wish I had the 33rpm from ORG but this one is a hell of a lot cheaper and sounds great.
Kulafyn
Which online resource was it released on? Where can I find it?
Goltikree
I managed to find this at a Bull Moose for 25% off a few years ago. #0118, too!
Niwield
It sounds great. Played selected tracks back to back with the 1992 blue swirl pressing. Although that one looks cool as hell, this 45rpm two record version sounds much fuller. I’m not sure what else if anything was done as far as remastering, etc., but it sure sounds like something has been done. It plays louder and has more presence.
Orevise
Finally found my copy. https://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-Incesticide/release/2026948Think this is the release! Happy days ????
Bolanim
I have a copy of this on a dark ish yellow vinyl & I’m not exactly sure what year it was released on? I’ll have to find it in my collection & upload a few pictures. Bought a good few years back, but unsure of the year of pressing. Great album though! ????
Rainbearer
Looking for a copy of this, preferably NM or close, with Kurt's notes in the booklet.
Camper
45RPM Master sounds fantastic. Nice job on the pressing. The ORG 33 RPM is just as good though. If you don’t have that I recommend this version. Price is down now too.
Ceroelyu
My copy does not match any version listed, can anyone tell me if their copy displays the 2017 date anywhere. Mine only says 2012 on sleeve and label. The cover is correct showing Beeswax as track 5 side 2. Also my labels display the copyright details around the label circular. Excellent pressing definitely not Back 2 Black series
Flash_back
Same here. But the hype sticker is the same. I bought it off amazon.ca an they say the release date is 2017 so... I'm confused
Kadar
Just purchased from amazon and mine, too, has the corrected sleeve. Merits it own entry imo.
Malojurus
I have the same copy. 2012 on sleeve and correct track listing. I don't see this release anywhere on discogs.
Runeshaper
I`ve got the same copy, but no luck in finding info about it...also no, my copy hasn't the year 2017 listed anywhere
Dancing Lion
He probably should of waited for Chris Bellman to recut this LP. He probably would of shot someone else. Sounding really nice.
Cel
This is the CD version that I have, however my matrix “Other (Variant 1 Mould Stamp):” is not listed. Mine reads: “Other (Variant 1 Mould Stamp): 21” It should also be noted that on the last page (page 8 or back cover of booklet) of the booklet is a colored picture of Cobain playing guitar (just like the one featured in the photos of this album); the number “DGCD-24504” is printed in white characters along the top edge of the photo (and to the right of center).
Ynye
This is unofficial 100%, is not an official press realease.
Impala Frozen
There was more than 4000 made. I have number 4098.
Arabella V.
actually, numbers exceed 4000 when some of the records pressed didn't meet quality standards or had an error. All numbered records work this way. Not sure why but it's true...
Haralem
The worst album from the band .sellout shit they had put old stuff together to this sálbun´m" even in the back to black series (180 Gram, etc) : I can't stand such crap. Better do the "LIVE at Reading" as a 180 gram 2 LP. That was real Punkrockstyle on that concert!
Brick my own
I don't think that this is the Black on black series. I have this record, still sealed though, but there's no Back on black sticker on the record. Only the one as shown on "More Images".
Hiylchis
This is an excellent release. It has that nice clean, clear sound that Bernie Grundman is known for while still retaining some of the raw, demo-like elements. How he does it? I don't know. But the clarity and separation on this thing are ace. Bass, drums, guitar and Kurt's voice are masterfully balanced, each high definition, detailed and with exceptional clarity. I can hear everything crystal clear. Very full sound. On the flip side, I can detect some unnatural compression that kind of holds back the energy on some tracks, especially on 'Been A Son' which has some sibilance issues. And the vocals on 'Turn Around' may suffer from a little compression and can sound distant but that may just be a fault of the original recording which is very reverb-heavy, disguising the sound. In conclusion, the record, as a whole, sounds spectacular with the exception of some vocal compression. Still a solid 9/10. Next, I'll have to get the 45rpm issue and see how that compares.
sobolica
Curious if you ever heard the 45rpm? I'm listening to it right now and agree with you on all points especially the "sibilance" on 'Been A Son', which no other comments seem to pick up on..
Nilador
I am not sure this was limited to 15,000 pressed. More like 5,000 pressed. I believe that 1 before the 5 is a typo.
Alien
The vinyl is fine and all, but the whole reason I bought it was for the download... which to my utter disappointment, is NOT re-mastered.
Nicearad
Agreed, perfect pressing all around. I think it's actually the best sounding Nirvana vinyl that I own. I would like to see "Unplugged" get this kind of treatment in the near future as I think the vinyl pressing for that one is insufficient, IMO.
Tori Texer
Side a sounds pretty good, side b has a lot of noice
Umrdana
This actually sounds good. When I bought this I thought it was an official pressing but I'm not dissatisfied. Worth the money.
Nalmergas
I bought this one ages ago and now found it again in my collection. I remember when I first played it that on Side A there's Nirvana but on Side B is some other band and still to this day I don't know what band that is. Somebody got the same record as mine?
Breder
as soon as the first drum hit came in on Dive I was so happy. A great piece of vinyl. Best I have heard this collection of songs sound. Fantastic stuff. Grab your copy!!!
Blackworm
Does it say where it was pressed? Gz? Pallas? Optimal? MPO?
Longitude Temporary
The sound and the pressing are very good! A must for every fans.
Envias
This is absolutely great. No more to say. Worth every penny.
Saithi
Is anyone's matrix runout mirrored? This is the only JVC release I can find.
Malara
Mine is mirrored. I can see it on the front of the CD but can’t read it all due to the green art/paint on the CD. However, if I turn it over, I can read the full number on the back but it is “mirrored.” I also posted that my mould stamp is 21, which is not listed among the variants although all else is the same.
Yggdi
What a wonderful pressing. Totally silent background with no surface noise, clicks or pops. The mastering is gorgeous too, bass heavy but still transparent. All analog 45 rpm in all its glory. I wish all modern vinyl would sound like this.
Windbearer
I am just curious about this pressing and it's sound quality. I have some other Pallas pressings and they are stellar however I recently purchased the most recent pressing of this album and there is a constant background ring that is very noticeable upon first drop of the needle and quiet parts of songs or transitions to next songs. Is there any of this present on this pressing due to how these songs were originally recorded?
Gaxaisvem
No, there is no constant, underlying background noise on this record. I have also purchased Pallas pressings that suffer from unwanted noise, specifically the Sonic Youth reissues, where a staticky sound can be heard throughout. This is just because Pallas presses variable quality records and probably didn't put as much attention and care into a widely commercial release as they would into a limited release like this pressing of Incesticide. Try cleaning the record, it's probably just static, it might go away.
Coiriel
Jacket states Beeswax as first track on side 3 on back and in gatefold but is last song on side 2 as stated on the label. Regardless, great album, sounds great and has gone down to about half the introductory price
Ichalote
I just got copy today and noticed that error too.
Burking
If you enjoy getting up and flipping the record every 10-to-12 minutes, this copy is for you.
Gaudiker
That's generally what one does when listening to a 45 rpm record.....
Flas
Love the bassey sound on this. Underrated nirvana release, this and in utero only ones that get regular play these days. This 1992 European LP release is great.
Goldfury
Did anybody else notice the typo?On the back of the cover it states the Beezwax is C1 instead of b5
Paster
Mine has the postcard. Didn't realize that was rare thing.
Rarranere
Best version of this in my opinion sounds so full and fat.
Jerdodov
Absolutely! It is massive & filthy as it was intended.
Fordredor
This pressing sounds absolutely phenomenal. A significant step above the 1992 CD. I'm glad they went all out for a 45 RPM double LP. It sounds punchy with an incredible low end, like the 2013 pressing of In Utero. Except the 2013 In Utero sounds very dark. It is worth the price. I might say it's even better than the 2009 ORG Nevermind.
Lavivan
Nirvana was never about high fidelity. I've got nothing against releasing this on 2 LPs at 45 RPM for those that want that sort of thing but I don't see the point. Give us a $18-$20 single black LP already. This is just unnecessary and silly in my opinion. It isn't "KInd of Blue" or "Dark Side of the Moon" and it doesn't even try to be.
Talvinl
plaidzebra noonanthebruce Nirvana was never about high fidelity. I've got nothing against releasing this on 2 LPs at 45 RPM for those that want that sort of thing but I don't see the point. Surely you can appreciate that this music is visceral and the dense, punchy sound enabled by a deep cut at 45rpm enhances the listener's experience. This is high impact music, and pressing it this way hits harder. It's not necessarily about high fidelity. You are absolutely right! That's exactly what I expect of Nirvana reissues. That they transmit even more intensely their rawness.
Reddefender
I agreed with you, until I heard the 45rpm edition. Even within the first 30 seconds of Dive I knew I had taken Incesticide to the next level. While Nirvana may not have cared about audiophilia, clearly their recording engineers and producers of the various analogue-tape sessions presented here, did. I already felt the original 33rpm ORG pressing handily bested the CD but I got the 2LP 45rpm for $25 on RSD BF back in 2013 from Record Theater in Buffalo (it was $50 everywhere else so I think they messed up the pricing) and I highly recommend it. It's available for $30 on Amazon, so it's not really that expensive for Nirvana fans who want to hear the definitive edition.
Anarahuginn
Yeah, if you’ve heard the Albini remaster 45 2xLP of In Utero, or the mofi issue of Surfer Rosa on even a cheap, decent system, you’d be able to hear and feel the difference between these and whatever normal versions you’re used to. Audio fidelity isn’t Golden sparkles sprinkled into the sleeve of an overpriced reissue; successful high fidelity is giving you the ability to be in the room where these songs are recorded, to feel the textures and weight of the instruments and voices, as if they were right next to you. High fidelity doesn’t only work with “perfect pitch” and classically trained musicians; it contributes to the visceral experience of a recorded performance, whether its Miles Davis or Nirvana. If someone competently places microphones near the performers in a room suited to the performance and everyone was doing their job, then you have a recording with the potential of being worth the highest fidelity release possible. Nirvana decided to record their last album with Albini because they wanted to get the best, rawest sound possible while performing together, where you can hear the room. They were cognizant of the recording process and if they didn’t care about how they sounded they could have recorded their entire discography into a single mic in a bathroom onto a cassette tape.

This was mastered by Chris Bellman, not Bernie. There is a CB etched in the deadwax. Sounds good but I'm not sure it's worth the high price?? There is nothing deluxe about the cover or quality of the packaging. I found the cover quite flimsy actually, and there isn't any inserts??
Akinonris
It may well be that Bernie created a mastered analogue cutting copy and CB cut the 45, because the original 33rpm version from ORG has BG in the deadwax. I'm sure one of them or their assistants would clarify if asked, they're usually pretty helpful.
Road.to sliver
Really sounds great. Was hoping they would have seen fit to include the original and somewhat hard to find liner notes, but no such luck.
Dianalmeena
You'll be hard-pressed to find a better sounding version of this record. It's perfect! Mine doesn't have the postcard either.
Quinthy
Currently completely ridiculous retail prices in Europe for this edition. I admit I'd like to have it but I'm also happy with my single LP ORG pressing. In fact it's even a more convenient listening than changing four sides.
Ytli
Overpriced. Cash grab by the label. Bring it down to $20 and I'd buy the release.
Doulkree
Does this sound any different to the RSD double LP?
AGAD
Sound quality of the pressing is wonderful. I was under the impression that this was going to be a Quality Records Pressing released on the 13th.
Wild Python
No prob. Yeah, i've seen to notice they rarely put their sticker on anything other than their Analogue Production pressings. Of course, there are exceptions.
Zolorn
I see, thanks so much for that info. I didn't have a QRP sticker on mine so I was confused.
Adaly
Quality Records Pressing (QRP) did the plating and pressing of this album.

I think that some copies came without inner sleeve with credits & photography, like the french Unplugged in NY. Mine is original, bought new and without inner sleeve.
santa
Horrible pressing. Its about 80% static. Complete junk at low volumes. If you crank it, it is unintelligible.
Gnng
I find this pressing to be delightful...just super.Signed,#0686 from Toronto
saafari
I listened to this one in a record store in Bottrop the other day, very poor sound quality
Doktilar
Boring press, sounds quite lifeless and dull, shame, great album.
Beanisend
also includes sticker
porosh
Excelent version! Sound is so nice and clear. Mine didn´t come with the postcard. Only the insert.
Bodwyn
Great release indeed. I started to like the song Sliver again after listening to this record. No postcard here either. Can someone post pics of the postcard?
Bumand
I have this version, but the cover has a sticker saying its the blue swirl version. Anyone else have this problem?
Kieel
Yes it does. sorry for the late reply, he he
ACOS
Same. Definitely not blue swirl though. Record is black as night.
Samugor
I do. Does yours also say made in Holland? I'm literally here for this.
Dawncrusher
Yup. Me too. I've never opened it though so I'm not sure if it's true lol. I bought it in 92 to give to one of my kids someday. December 25th might be the day :)
MarF
I have this album and freaked out when I bought it for $5 at a swap meet...I was even more freaked out when I gave it a spin! A rare find and I like both bands, so I'm stoked to have it in my collection. I'd be curious to know how many were pressed? Sleeve says it was printed in Holland.
Grotilar

I've got #4000. Does anybody know why "Beeswax" is listed on Side 3, while it's on Side 2 of 1 LP?
Warianys
I disagree. The 20th sounds great!
Malodor
I also disagree! With all of you who spend $100 for remastered reissues. ORIGINAL Nirvana's 1st presses (Europe's / USA's / Japan's) sound super & better than any other reissue. That was the real & pure sound. Stop thinking & spend money for colours, numbered & special edition. ORIGINAL STAYS ORIGINAL FOREVER! For the Ears, The Eyes & the Hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Inth
I disagree too. My copy sounds awesome.

QUESTION - Why remaster “Incesticide”? It ain’t no Steely Dan record...ANSWER - Because they can, and they did, twice over, and with that said, when I did a shoot-out (4 different times) between the original 1992 U.S. “Limited Edition Blue Swirl Vinyl” version, the recut (corrected) “ORG/RTI” test pressing, and this "20th", here is what I found.....The "Blue Swirl" original has a very loose, thrown together, “dirty” bootleg feel about it, which was the point of “Incesticide” back in 92’-a quick (but low profile) stopgap/cash-grab release, to help keep those naughty bootleggers from dipping to far into Nirvana’s newfound success, and to hold over those crazed “Nevermind” fans until the release of “In Utero”. On the 92’ 1st press, openers "Dive", and especially “Sliver”, stand out as the most polished (production-wise), with a bunch of the remaining tracks sounding like what they are; demos, Peel sessions, and BBC cuts (some playing noticeably louder than others with a mishmash of production styles). "ORG" tones down the rawness of the recordings a bit as usual, but offers a well rounded, warmer, fuller sounding low end, with just a touch more separation, basically leaving the original dynamics and overall varied volume settings intact (you could say it keeps in “spirit” with the original 92’ release-dirty, muddy, thrown together...in other words, unprofessional like a bootleg). This "20th" however is an overhaul, every song gets cranked up and equalized with one another, not brick walled mind you as mentioned in my previous review, but it’s mastering is not as varied from song to song like the 92’ & the “ORG”. And although lots of new detail is revealed on this new 45rpm cut; the kick more pronounced, the cymbal splash searing, vocals floating over the instruments, etc...I still happen to prefer the overall condensed sound of the 92’ release, with it’s less punchy, blurred, chaotic, dirty sound, for the entire mix melds together better, where as the "20th's" pinpoint separation tends to distract...I would generally agree with fellow reviewer rose1978's sentiments, that the original 1st pressings have set the bar for how these songs probably should sound, not simply because they came out first, but because they are purer representations of what the band really sounded like during the era of these recordings-raw and “dirty”. However, it is undeniable that there are benefits to be heard here on this “20th”, the detail, as mentioned, is atonishing, “Aneurysm” & “(New Wave) Polly” in particular have never sounded more open!Keep in mind that although "Incesticide" saw release after "Nevermind" (which had a very polished production, especially when compared to “Bleach”), it was mainly an assemblage of material that really came from the "Bleach" era, which had a very low-fi punk sound, the release was also an attempt to sort of undo the overwhelming success of “Nevermind”, a “back to where we came from” answer to selling out. “Incesticide” was Nirvana’s very own bootleg of itself if you will, thus the title, “Incesticide”: to violate one’s self, presumably before someone else does (namely BOOTLEGGERS!)...that is the original intent of this record.

I've got it on number 1187. What a beautiful sound !

I never thought Incesticide sounded "muddy", "thrown together" and "unprofessional like a bootleg". What kind of weed are you on? I've noticed some people just like to romanticize the whole "raw, dirty and unprofessional" thing... A buddy of mine says that a singer of a metal band must be "ugly, the uglier the better; handsome and polished is for girls and hair metal". That's cool if you're into stuff like that, but his review is based on a wrong premise. Plus I don't believe that guy's qualified to make definitive statements about the original INTENT of the record, unless he was a good friend of someone from the band or someone related to the band.

Yes the 2017 repressing is of the 2012 stampers that Bernie / CB did for the 45rpm release, well worth picking up if you love this collection.

Thanks for the thorough review. I have an original, and have yet to acquire this 20th anniversary edition. I believe there’s a 25th anniversary edition as well that appeared in 2017. I’m assuming it’s the same masters as the 2012 pressing.

I stand corrected! After reading burketop's reply/review, I decided to repurchase, and relisten to this “20th” just to be sure. Indeed the record is not, I repeat, is not "brick walled", instead, this remaster has the entire album’s volume raised and equalized, with dynamics still intact, which is a distinction to be made. Forgive me for my original "Downer" of a review of this very solid, but perhaps needless "20th Ann." edition of "Incesticide". I have now amended my original review. ????

steamybrown2003 Just did a shoot-out with the "Original Blue Swirl Geffen", "ORG", and this "20th". The "Geffen" has a rawer feel than the others, with "Sliver" being the best sounding recording on the album as far as production and the way it was mixed. The tracks are all compiled at different volume settings with some playing noticeable lower than others. "ORG" tones down the rawness a bit as usual, and offers a punchier, warmer low end. It sticks to the original's varied dynamics and volume settings. The "20th" however turns the volume way way up, much like the tragedy of the "Nevermind 20th" remaster-no dynamics, just one big block of sound that is relentless on the listener's ear. Every song is at an even volume level with one another unlike the other two pressings mentioned-cranked with no room to breath. I did not find this at all, as with the ORG this was "Recompiled and remastered from the original analog master tape and recording sources by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios" and cut at 45rpm by Chris Bellman @ Bernie Grundman Mastering, I think it sounds absolutely fabulous when cranked up and is louder because of being cut @ 45rpm and running at 9-12 mins/side, cutting it nice and loud allows it to be way above the noise level of longer running 33rpm records. SIDE B of the 33rpm hits 22 mins, so they wouldn't have cut it as loud as they did at 45rpm. I still have my ORG clear but this one bests it, I wish they had done 45rpm lacquers of all of Bernie's all analogue masterings as I would love to hear how much better Nevermind could sound given how great the ORG sounds at 33rpm.This is not at all like what happened with the Nevermind 20th which was slammed for all formats, Just because something is louder on vinyl doesn't mean it's a victim of the loudness wars, I have some 5-6 minute 12" UK singles that are unbelievably loud compared to most records but they still sound great as the dynamics aren't compromised. For example "Get The Message" by Electronic or "Sound" by James.

This is the record that represents Nirvana's sound adequately. While "Bleach" was constructed in accordance to the developing "grunge" scene in the late 80's (relying heavily on stripped down 70's heavy-cock-rock riffs and omitting their pop sensitivity), "Nevermind" was primarily produced for a wider audience of alternative music and mangled the band's punk roots. "In Utero" may be regarded as a compromise between the previous two records but simultanously represents the effort of a whorn-out, disillusioned band that lacks the unburdened approach to music. The latter is reflected in each track on the "Incesticide" compilation. So, if you are looking for the immaculately pure "Nirvana" record, this one is highly recommended.

So, the barcode on the plastic sleeve it comes in is 0 93624 96254 0However, the barcode on the actual sleeve is different and is 0 93624 96903 7, which is the same barcode as the black vinyl copy.

I have this 2. Bought it in 2010/2011 in Belgium. I know it is not anOfficial release, but not sure which of these it would fall under. It's using some of these same issue numbers..Anyway, mine has different music on side A. 3 tracks, which I used the music app Sound Hound to identify. They are from Saint Vitus. One song was called White Magic/Black Magic.

I remember seeing an interview with Kurt where he said he thought of Nirvana as a punk band, or that he wanted them to be more like one. This surprised me because back then I was younger and didn't really think about the labels that the industry slaps on things to promote them, and I "knew" that Nirvana was 'grunge' or 'alternative', which were the buzz words of the day. I knew this because I saw them call it that on MTV. So I hear him say it is punk or that they follow punk ethics, and I was like 'whaaaaa?'. I never thought of them as having anything to do with 'punk'. Yet, if you look at their music, it really did have a more stripped down sound to it, as the song structures were straight-forward and the music itself was pretty simple too. Bleach mostly relied on Kurts anguished and powerful vocal delivery (just check out 'Negative Creep'), paranoid and generally dark lyrics, dirty guitar tones, and over-all grungy sound. These things painted a kind of powerful emotional (although possibly confused and very flawed) picture. To me that album could be called 'punk' as per the ideas usually associated with older punk (pre-90s) music. Then came Nevermind. Someone at Geffen saw potential in Kurt, and with the raw emotion oozing out of those vocals (Bleach), who wouldn't? So they give his band a deal. Set him up with a producer, and proceed to tease a more 'mainstream' friendly album out of the band. All of that post-production probably has something to do with it too. I find it pretty funny that Grohl is known for his heavy drums, but they actually overdubbed drum samples over his drums on Nevermind!? Sounds sacrilegious doesn't it? Read some interviews one the subject and you will start to see that a lot of the sound of Nevermind came from post-production. When I first heard Kurt say he didn't like the album I thought 'yeah, right', thinking he just said that to look like a typical intellectual 'artist', shunning his own fame and wealth yet in all honesty loving every second of it. Now I can see it though. It DOES sound like a bubblegum pop record compared to Bleach. Then comes Incesticide. A loose collection of the more rare tracks from earlier in their career. The Bleach era, mostly. Is it a coincidence that they too sound more in alignment with the 'punk ethic'? They come off as quickly executed, wham-bam, yet energetic tracks. If you check out any of complete pre-Nevermind recording sessions that have leaked out (or tracks on the box set), they too exhibit this attitude. Sure, Nevermind is still composed of straight-forward songs with simple music, but the sound and overall attitude is so *polished* and radio-friendly. This was more because of Geffen Records' demands and less to do with the band members themselves. Basically, I feel that the irony is that while Incesticide is a little known disc from the world famous band, it may be the most representative of them. It is at least more representative of them than Nevermind, their more famous release. Check out any of their live performances and see. I will say that In Utero did go in a new direction from this to something further removed from 'punk', but I think that album is great too and still more honest of a representation of where the band was at when it came out, than Nevermind was when it came out. Incesticide is full of simple, grungy, straight-forward, slightly 'punky' songs, and is a fun listen. Kurts vocals usually give their songs an edge over any similarly crafted ones from other lesser bands.

A few things - Late on in his life Cobain said that he would like to be seen as a singer/songwriter in the sense of, for example, Johnny Cash more than being regarded as part of punk rock. Looking at some of his best work, the Unplugged concert and songs like "Polly", "About A Girl", "Dumb" etc. I find it reasonable to believe - I couldn't find that quote though. Geffen actually won a bidding war between labels, cause it was pretty obvious they're gonna be a big thing. I agree that Nevermind is poorly produced and even though the song material is 10/10 in itself it's an overrated album because of the production. Apparently at the time he just wanted to have the record out and the band didn't have all the power over the record anyway. Bleach would've been different too by Cobain's likings by the way. If one considers all the versions available on bootlegs and the "With The Lights Out" set there are better ones for about every song on Nevermind. Something that cannot be said of the other albums, especially In Utero sounds superb in my opinion.
MrCat
This is a FAKE release.

I believe thats why its labeled as an "Unofficial Release". If it was a "real" album, it would be listed as "official".

Nirvana's Incesticide tends to be glossed over when people talk about Nirvana, because it doesn't contain the classics "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Heart-Shaped Box," or "Rape Me." However, Incesticide is worth getting if you have already have Nevermind of In Utero. At the first listen, you'll notice that the production values are different. The songs are in a more raw form, and sometimes, the balance is off, making some songs really bass-heavy while some of them lack the bottom end. This gives Incesticide much variety. In addition to the depressed grunge normally associated with the band, there are also some optimistic-sounding punk songs. Some notable songs include the following: "Sliver" is a grunge song with some punk influences. The lyrics don't make much sense to me, but they sound kind of humorous. "Molly's Lips" and "Son Of A Gun" are the punk gems that really stand out on this album. First of all, they are clearly much more punk than grunge, and they're pretty optimistic, which is a big deviation from the depressing grunge on the rest of the album. These two tracks are definitely worth listening to. This album is the punky brother to Nevermind and In Utero. Personally, I think the other two are better made and they sound better, but the three songs I cited above are especially good. This isn't a fantastic album, but it is an enjoyable one.
