About Album

Amnesiac is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Radiohead, released in June 2001 by Parlophone. Recorded with producer Nigel Godrich alongside Radiohead's previous album Kid A 2000, Amnesiac incorporates similar influences of electronic music, 20th-century classical music, jazz and krautrock. Only one track was recorded after the Kid A sessions: Life in a Glasshouse, a collaboration with the Humphrey Lyttelton Band. Amnesiac - Radiohead. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. An amazing album that was not in Youtube in a live form. Note: They have never played PulkPull revolving doors live so i put the studio . Released June 5, 2001. Amnesiac Tracklist. Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box Lyrics. Perhaps the greatest sequel since The Godfather Part II, Amnesiac was the second half of the one-two punch Radiohead began with 2000s Kid A. It was smoother on the surface yet just as disorienting underneath, putting more emphasis on the guitars its predecessor relied on less, but in all kinds of warped and mutated forms: Knives Out soared like vintage Smiths, and I Might Be Wrong rode an Allman Brothers riff into the trip hop hinterlands. Amnesiac Q&A. Producers Nigel Godrich & Radiohead. Faced with a deliberately difficult deviation into experimentation, Radiohead and their record label promoted Kid A as just that - a brave experiment, and that the next album, which was just around the corner, really, would be the real record, the one to satiate fans looking for the next OK Computer, or at least guitars. Amnesiac is the fifth studio album by English rock band Radiohead. It was first released on 4 June 2001 in the United Kingdom by Parlophone and a day later in the United States by Capitol Records. Much of its material was recorded during the same sessions for the band's previous album Kid A 2000, incorporating similar influences of krautrock and electronica. Its lyrics and artwork explore themes of memory, with influences from ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology. Amnesiac, 2001. Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box, 04:00. Pyramid Song, 04:48. But it also offers something even more challenging, replete with crumbling orchestral builds and-as on the plaintive Morning BellAmnesiac -invigorating bursts of Thom Yorkes matchless falsetto. That said, Amnesiac is about as close to The Bends as Miss Cleo is to Jamaican. And within the first ten seconds of its opening track, Packt like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box, the band crushes that rumor like a bug in the ground. Sparse, clanging percussion evokes abandoned swingsets. If nothing else, Radiohead have always realized the emotional impact of a stunning album closer, and Amnesiac offers two. Sitting side by side, Like Spinning Plates and Life in a Glasshouse are so vastly superior to the album's other tracks that the album's few misteps are easily forgiven

Ce
Solid press and a great album. A true classic by Radiohead.
Gio
Great pressing, great album. Arrived plenty dirty, but after a thorough cleaning plays well and sounds great. This pressing from GZ and the other 2x12" from Optimal Media are probably your best best for Amnesiac on vinyl.
Zyniam
Mine plays perfectly, but only after a deep cleaning.Beautiful crisp sound whether played through speakers or headphones. Gorgeous album, My favourite Radiohead album.

AVOID THIS PRESSING AT ALL COSTS. I've never heard any other vinyl pressings of Amnesiac, but this sounds like it was cut from a CD (it probably was) and the sound was so bad I had to return it to the record store. I know this might sound like hyperbole, but it's seriously that bad. Get the newer XL 12" pressing instead.
Mr.jeka
You know...i dont get discogs reviewers, which is why im glad you’re on here to give your judgements. Some on here say this is amazing...which is insane?!? It sometimes makes the comments section more or less useless.
Cordann
Has anyone got a copy to sell and not for some stupid ridiculous price as one seller has for $1000?
Gavirim
Just found and purchased a copy on eBay for £60.
Atineda
How much do you think they're worth for someone who lives in the real world?
Benn
Seems as if the UK release comes without the catalogue number on the hype sticker whereas the EU book release has.
Broadcaster
As others have said, can also vouch that this press sounds superb and probably the best version there is so far. Beautifully crisp, you feel it from the first hi-hat in Sardines.
greed style
How on Earth did Radiohead achieve the soundstage that is prsent on these 10-inch wonders? This recording & mastering is insane! If you aren't hearing s**t from behind you, then get a better stereo...
Arihelm
100 times better than the 10 inch version. I now have both. Going to dump the 10 inch at the used record store in my area. This pressing is so damn good. So glad they did this and also did it as a 12 inch.
Narim
Got this yesterday - first play through had a number of noise during quiet/silent parts even though the record has been properly cleaned. The pops and scuffs are distracting at times - not very happy with the pressing.
Original
Mine didn't have either sticker but has Capitol labels. Another pressing?
Araath
Not much to add for what people have already said. It sounds simply wonderful, adding some layers I had never heard from digital copies that I have had. I have not heard the original 10" but few times at the time of it`s release, but I doubt it sounded this good. The 45RPM is really nice touch, and in my opinion it usually makes sound breath better with added resolution.
Not-the-Same
Bought new years ago and it had a duplicate A/B album and no C/D. Fluke, I'm sure, but the Tower Records shop was good enough to give me a whole new record and let me keep the old. So if anyone has my C/D and I have your A/B just hit me up and we can swap :) sorry it took me so long to post
Froststalker
I had slight reservations when purchasing this one as I had had a couple of issues with pops and clicks on Kid A XL Reissue (resolved on replacement copy)...However I can honestly say that it sounds great and at times its like I'm hearing the album for the first time as there are subtle layers that really come through - previously unheard on cd version. I think that this is why - in my opinion - Radiohead are meant to be heard on vinyl: The many intricate layers that they install into their music really do come through. I had the same experience with the latest In Rainbows Reissue - also superb. Recommended.
SING
It's perfect. A low level bass compared to digital but the warm and detailed harmonics make you think you've never listened this album before. Strongly recommend to purchase.
Nilador
Mine sound really good. Dead silent between tracks; no igd.
Vikus
XL pressing, made in the EU . Plays at 45 but only knew this once I started playing. A Flawless pressing that sounds superb.
Dalarin
My copy sounds amazing. Super quiet floor, I'm very impressed considering all the negative talk about Capitol pressings.
Fenrikree
So I recently purchased the EU 12” to compare against my NA 12”... I was surprised to find that the amount of space taken up by music on the record was far less than my NA and what is pictured here on this release page (with an inch or more larger runout area on side A)... It is still 45rpm despite this difference... The markings are different as well “147231M3” stamped (not etched). Looks like we have yet another release for this one.
Ishnsius
As far as the 12" XL's are concerned, I preferred the NA.
????????????????????????
Can you compare pressing quality of both? I was sent an NA version when I ordered the EU version, and am wondering if I should keep it.
Grillador
Same issue, my marking is 147231m1/A. Does someone want to create a seperate release?
Walan
My copy of this release is on dead quiet, super flat 33 1/3 vinyl. These are two of the best sounding records in my vinyl collection. The soundstage is big and open, and the stereo effects really drew me in. Great linear sound throughout the frequency spectrum; especially strong when listening in 2.1. Punchy kick drums and clean, detailed cymbals, strings and machines. This is a great mix and this pressing does everything well. I highly recommend this release. (Rega Planar 3, Exact 2 cart, PSE Studio SL, Linn LK85, Linn interconnects, Linn Katans - Linn Sizmik 12.45" for 2.1)
Steamy Ibis
Perfection with this pressing! I won't be messing with any reissues. how could it get any better?
Unereel
Audio comes apparently from a lossy source, yet a nice one.
Celore
pyramid song sounds terrible on my record. clipping and extreme noise on the piano as if it was some sort of bad recording. vocals and drums sound extremely clear though. can anyone else confirm?

my recommendations. Good sound quality. Excellent edition. There is practically no noise

Around the third Radiohead album OK Computer from 1997 I pulled out. The intellectual electronic pop of the English five I didn't understand more, despite the fact that the rest of the album Netherlands the predicate ' brilliant '. Also, where Radiohead Kid A was guided by the experiment, could not hold my interest, however much I wanted. Barely six months after Kid A, Amnesiac appears that residual material contains of the-according to interviews difficult come about-sessions for Kid A on Amnesiac is indeed still experimented with electronics, rhythms and distorted sounds (Pyramid Song, Like Spinning Plates) that the album a kind of subcutaneous tension. But there are also traces of the ' old ' at the time of Radiohead OK Computer and earlier. Listen to the acoustic song Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, I Might Be Wrong (a relief) and Life In A Glasshouse which Thom Yorke as always delicious melodramatic turns out.
Voodoolkree
Mine came in a Capital jacket with Parlophone wax. Also the jacket doesn't have any text on the front cover. All text is on the spine and back cover.
Styphe
Mine has a problem. My pressing's B side is noisy at the end of the last song.I tried to reach XL records, but I didn't have an answer. Do you know how to contact them?
Skillet
Looking to buy a copy if anyone has one. Thx
Iaran
Got one, thanks.!=! x x x x x xx x
Enila
Has anybody done a direct A/B comparison with the Amnesiac XL 12" 45RPM and the original EU 2001 Parlophone press yet? I own the latter - it sounds amazing, and I'm wondering if it's worth my time/money to seek out the new 12". Thanks for any feedback!
Thoginn
I have had 2 copies of this so far and both have a lot of non fill/stitching pressing faults on sides C and D (causing a ripping like sound). A real shame as The sound quality of the music itself is great.both are EU pressings (with minotaur cover)...
BOND
I can confirm the non-fill on side C. Really annoying. I didn't even bother listening to side 4. Other than that, pressing was quiet.
ladushka
The back of the record by the bar code states "Made In NA." Namibia?
Onnell
No, that would be North America. So it seems the European version has the minotaur on the cover, while the North American version does not. Easy way to identify the two of them, I guess.
Nuadador
I got this pressing this morning. Although the photos are missing from the listing, the record labels are identical to the version WITH the crying minotaur, as are the engravings in the vinyl by the labels, and all other cover art. Maybe the first batch was missing the crying minotaur?
Giamah
My copy has the Minotaur, but the Etching is exactly as it says here. Is this still the right version?
Vathennece
I purchased the 12" at a local record store. I'm intrigued that my cover art differs from the original artwork and what is shown here... There is no "crying minotaur" and the image is essentially the same as the rear artwork (minus the barcode and information at the top). Anyone else notice what I'm seeing? Another 12" release will have to be added to discogs as I have also seen 12" with the "proper" artwork (which is this release page).
Ral
US first pressings have the misprint cover and apparently poor pressing quality, US second and further pressings and UK pressings have the correct cover. Word I've been seeing is that the UK pressing is significantly better than the US pressing for some reason so it's worth the extra $5 or so to import.
Doktilar
bradleyhanson I have actually never seen a copy of the 2x12" Amnesiac that wasn't the version without the minotaur on the front. I'm starting to wonder if it actually exists, or if the early pressings had the plain cover and then they added the minotaur again (or vice versa?) It certainly exists. I purchased it from a local record store in Toronto in early October. I went back a few days ago and they still had several copies, all of them with the minotaur on the front. So for whatever reason, there are two versions of this cover, and someone will have to add the one without the minotaur to the database.

Sat
Same. I was thrown off as to why they would remove the "crying minotaur" from the cover. Not sure if it's a printing error or intentional. The cover feels pretty stark to me now.
Swift Summer
I have the same problem, the cover art is the same as the rear. Weird.
thrust
Had no idea this was a 45 RPM pressing and dropped the needle spinning at 33-1/3, lol. Quickly realized my folly and moved the belt. It sounds great (granted this is the first Amnesiac copy I have owned) and I have no regrets. I'm picking up virtually no surface noise and lots of channel separation and clarity.
Datrim
It's totally stupid, that there is nowhere marked, that it's a 45 RPM, otherwise it sounds superb...
Negal
Any thoughts on how good this pressing is? Is it better than the 10" Parlophone and Captiol pressings?
Flower
Yes It is a 45, played it today had a skip on the second track
Mala
It is most definitely 45rpm. I have the version without the minotaur on the cover, which has the identical record labels as this one... Sounds great.
Xwnaydan
Unless there is something better? I have the LPKIDA and following uk parlophone press of kidA and the recent 12" beats them both, no contest. Hoping the same for amnesiac, though that will be tough as the OG Amnesiac is probably the best sounding record (ever) made. Incredibly perfect mastering job done, music literally jumps at you from the speakers. incredible! if the 12" is better I will likely die of amazingness.
Ygglune
Yes, I too was surprised but it is indeed 45 RPM, absolutely.
Granigrinn
Is this version really 45RPM? I only ask because the Kid A reissue is 33RPM and it seems odd that it's different
Tetaian
Much better than the Capitol pressings. This one is quiet, with no pops or ticks. There seems to be a bit more clarity in the sound as well, though I don't have an original Parlophone to compare it to. It's certainly worth getting if you want to upgrade from a Capitol pressing.
Malojurus
capital pressing is pure shit, parlophone is almost flawless, there is no use to find anything better
Hugifyn
Weird that the Amnesiac 12" repress is 45rpm and Kid A is 33. Only 6 mins difference between them in run time. Unsurprisingly, both sound great on 12". About time too.
Kage
I purchased the XL version off amazon in May. It arrived in a Capitol sleeve with Parlophone discs inside. In any case, the pressing is absolutely stellar!

Adokelv
Any opinions about the sonics of this pressing compared to the original one?
Flamehammer
How does it sound compared to the 2001 pressing?Owners, please help us.
Fenius
I'll echo the last comment. I have a 2012 repress from the EU, and stumbled across a pristine original pressing for a price I couldn't resist. I thought the repress was great, and honestly I wasn't expecting much of a difference, but the original is a notable better mastering/pressing. Better dynamics, more detail, better bass definition. The repress and the original were the same price, and I would have been happy to make some money by reselling the original if they sounded the same, but I'll be keeping the original and selling the repress. Happy hunting...
Gavinranara
I just got a sealed 2001 UK original after having the 2008 US repress. Wow! What an amazing sounding pressing. You are 100% correct.
Vozilkree
My local hi-fi (in the truest sense of the concept) shop, considers the original 'Amnesiac' pressing to be one of, if not the best, example of modern mastering through to pressing, and theses guys aren't necessarily Radiohead fans.I love my copy like I love my children.
Phenade
This sounds pretty darn good. Really quiet when you want it to be and full and clear when you want it to be. Great pressing and packaging.
hulk
Do these have Parlophone or Capitol discs inside? Kid A appears to have Capitol discs in the XL sleeves. Hail to the Thief and OK Computer appear to have Parlophone discs inside.
Hystana
Mine contains parlophone lp matrix bc80243-02 C1 MK. 5327661 also and viv.
Quendant
These have Capitol discs inside, XL on sleeve, nice pressing
Adaly
Have you checked Ok Computer to verify? I'm wondering whether it's Parlophone or Capitol inside. The back of the outer-sleeve is branded with "XL" in the bottom left so there's no way to tell simply by the outer-sleeve itself.
Arakus
I'd like to know which discs are in this version as well. Can't find anything about this online.
Braswyn
These straight up suck. Do not waste your money. Original Parlaphone vinyl is the way to go.
Thabel
...and they're not great either... I think digital is the only answer to an engaging listen. so many Radiohead titles are utterly disappointing on vinyl.
Blacknight
Yeah the original Parlaphone vinyl is the copy to own. The reissues just plain suck. Don't waste your money.
Pemand
Sounds great and looks great, no scuffs, or dents, lovely warm sound, really happy with this repress, only gripe is that the sleeves are very tight when trying to get them back in the gate fold.
Ericaz
Does anyone else have a mispress where the Side 1 label is also on Side 3? Anyone?
Hap
I do! I have a copy of this that has a misprint on the A/B sides. Seems they accidentally labeled the A/B sides with the C/D side labels. It's the full album so the actual musical content isn't affected, just the labeling since both discs have C/D labels. I wonder how many there are out there...
Armin
I bought two brand new reissues of this and both had a ton of noise and slight scuffs which affected the sound. Beware!
Rose Of Winds
Same as Kid A press-wise: both came mildly bowl-shaped, and, even though they sound fine, go for a first press if possible.
Malalrajas
I have a copy that has a Made in England sticker on the back of the sleeve. I bought it @ Amoeba Music the Sat.after its U.K. release date, which is the usual arrival time for imports released that week in the U.K. or Europe. Almost every other one that I come across has the Made in Holland sticker on it or no sticker at all.
Nkeiy
The only pressings of this album were made in Holland on initial release, and then distributed to all markets. EMI moved their UK pressing plants to Holland and therefore that is why you see the "Made in Holland" sticker on both Amnesic and HTTT. They moved them around the time KID A was released. These stickers were put on pressings bound for the US market during the original release run. The pressings that were sold in the EU/UK and elsewhere in the world have no sticker. There were no UK made pressings. All were made in Holland back in 2001.
Questanthr
Yes...at least that is what I've seen. Parlophone continues to press these, I believe. I dont know if they use a different barcode like they do with KID A now. Before 2008 when the Capitol reissues came out there was only one pressing...the one made in Holland that is often referred to as the UK pressing. That is it. The only way I could tell one that was made in 2001 vs one that was made in 2007 was that little sticker. I have promos from 2001 I got here in the US and they all have that little sticker. I have retail versions as well, and they all have that little sticker. Ones I've seen that came out after that have no sticker, and ones that were sold in the EU/UK have no sticker...that is why it is so hard to tell when they were made. Everything else about them seem to be the same...I've gone over them with a fine tooth comb and could not figure out the difference.
Hucama
can you clarify for me.. so there is only one pressing from holland/UK back in 2001 and then the capital reissue? or, can you post the two discogs linx of which you believe there to be versions of?thanks
Defolosk
This was also released in Japan as TOCP 70731-32.

I am pretty sure “Like Spinning Plates” samples Christopher Young’s title track for the film “Rounders”.Listen carefully to hear the xylophone and high hat on Radiohead’s LSP at 0:47 seconds in. The high hat kicks in and then shortly after the xylophone with the EXACT same sequence of notes as Rounders yet possibly with the pitch shifted slightly. The point in “Rounders” a film that was release 3 years prior to Amnesiac, is at 1:03 into the track.Like Spinning Plates http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQBDsNiCCNMRounders http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfBSM46KzsA&feature=relatedHow do we go about fact checking for the sample? It isn’t printed in the liner notes.
Nuadabandis
My copy has a sticker saying "Made in Holland" below the barcode at the back of the cover. All the matrix numbers match though. Can a UK release be made in Holland? Otherwise, is my copy a Holland release? I'm confused...
Samulkis
No, bought it off ebay in 2011.
Purestone
Hi,When did you buy your copy, Niceroad77? Did you buy it day of release?
Mananara
Quite a curious piece in the Radiohead discography, Amnesiac has always been seen somewhat as the "offcasts" from the Kid A album. While when Kid A was released people were rightly shocked, even horrified at the change of direction of the band, Amnesiac came around swiftly afterwards and somewhat got swept up in the post-fear hysteria that surrounded many fan's initial doubt about the wholly change in direction.Indeed, I must admit that prior to Kid A Radiohead were not a band whom I gave any attention to. Mainly this was due to my youth and belief in the people who wrote reviews in magazines (along with my teenage friends who like me were total dance music devotees who refused to look beyond a solid 4/4 kick drum). Radiohead were this boring, depressing band right?Correction. Wrong. But that's a whole different story. The fact is that Kid A changed my opinion about Radiohead, and Amnesiac solidified that opinion.Amnesiac is an album full of the messed-up Warp Records style electronic shit that seeped through Kid A. Starting with Packt Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box (yes, let's add a "sp" to that), the album begins in a mode that easily flows from the last dying moments that you craved would never end from the dying breath of Kid A. It's a quirky introduction to the blissful confusion that will proceed.Pyramid Song, the first single since the band released No Surprises (of course no singles were issued from Kid A), is haunting. Yes, it's haunting. Lyrically romantic, but not like you expect. Thom throws words at you that you simply do not expect from a love song. It's sick, it's not right. Yet I still fall in love.Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors is one of my favourites. Crunch would be the best word. It CRUNCHES. Vocal wise it's back to Kid A (the song), that fucked up effect that sounds like Gary Numan on Salvia. There is a part of this song that drops, and not in the way you think of. It just DROPS. It's ghastly yet immersive. I shall not spoil it.Track four brings you back to the Ink Spots. Blissfully periodic of the 1940's, yet Thom still spits vitriol. No Java Jive here though, far from it.I Might Be Wrong is rather more generic Radiohead material. Pehaps a nice b-side that would have fitted (in less gritty production) on The Bends sessions, but nonetheless not quite up to the standards that this album holds in my opinion.Knives Out was an actual single, and I guess it's obvious why. A strong chorus, not particularly interesting but powerful all the same. Dirty, hateful lyrics bely the catchiness of the music. This is not a love song. Not quite fit for any Now! compilation (thank fuck).Next is Morning Bell / Amnesiac. Yeah, this was on Kid A. cut the Kids in half.Dollars & Cents comes up, and it's moody! It doesn't really go anywhere, but it flows nowhere well. A bit like drinking milk, once you start it's not so bad. Then it's Hunting Bears. A nice intro, good use of brutal silence. But why bother any more about this!Like Spinning PlatesIt's one of the (if not THE) album highlights. It'll mess you up if you are messed up, it'll mess you up if you're feeling messed up. Just don't bother listening to it bored. Thom's delivery is sublime, his lyrics beauty. Dying beauty. The most beautiful kind. Evocative of abandon, blissful abandon. Nothing left to care for here, just watch the lot float away. All in reverse? Well, that's the idea.Life In A Glass House rounds up this album. Wonderful arrangement, i'm sure Tom Waits is a fan of this. He must appreciate the intensity and groove that Radiohead force upon you here, with the massive contribution of Humphrey Lyttelton. Is someone listening in?
Thetalune
the only Radiohead vinyl (of the 7 that I own) that even comes close to this pressing (sound/dynamics), is the In Rainbows box set, which cost me 3 times as much. It is great
