It is Waters' first solo album since Amused to Death 1992, and his first studio work since the opera Ça Ira 2005. The album titled song comes with no surprise. Politically charged song starts off with Trump delusional exchange with CNN and ends with a conclusion of human. Starting with the band's 1977 LP Animals , and moving through 1979's The Wall , 1983's The Final Cut and the handful of solo albums he's released since 1984, Waters has focused his attention on album-length concepts covering the dual subjects. It hasn't always been a smooth run. And it's a signpost for his first album of new material in a quarter century, Is This The Life We Really Want . Roger Waters may not have made an album of new material between 1992 and 2017, but he was very active during that quarter-century. He toured regularly, wrote an opera, reunited Pink Floyd for the 2005 charity concert Live 8, and revived The Wall several times, turning the self-absorbed rock opera into a political piece. Is This the Life We Really Want, his fourth song cycle, picks up on this thread, functioning as barbed protest music for the age of Brexit and Trump. Roger Waters in an interview with People. On this album of the same title, Waters speaks about the current events in the world that anger him, like drone attacks and the refugee crisis. And of course he speaks out against Donald Trump on it. Despite all the anger and frustration Waters displays on it, the record ends on a positive note, with a trinity of love songs. In an interview with Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, Waters declares hes trying to convey that 'love is the strongest weapon mankind possesses in those last few songs. Full of whining and complaining, music is great at moments. Is this the Life We Really want and Bird in a Gale are good songs with a sense of urgency in the music and the aura of defeat in the lyrics. Roger is a brilliant musician that seems to only rite about what he considers the problems in life. If you like whining this is your record. I enjoy this along with Amused to Death but I just wish he would make some more positive material. It cant always be doom and gloom Roger. My pressing was perfect.
Pringles
Bought the album. Spun it up a few times. I was disappointed. Also saw the tour. Roger should focus more on music and less on politics.
Fawrindhga
The Netherlands. Number 003449. Marbled vinyl. Sound quality of Side A is a bit dull compared to the other sides.
Innadril
I have the # 000182 here in Belgium. Still sealed because I already had the black vinyl released in 2017.
Wyameluna
No 7033 here, Malta EU. The green marble looks great.
Livina
Are all of the green versions 'marbled'? Some photos online seem to show it as a plain translucent green? Or are they just poor photos??
Saintrius
How can i download my digital copy to the site: Is this the life we really want?i have the coupon, the site, but what i need to put in the username/passqord field?
Haal
No 010557 for me , lovely green vinyl edition, very nice
Nuadabandis
Hi! My copy № 005400. I am in Russian Federation!Does anybody use the download code from this release?I can't do it because the link to login page requires registration. Does anybody know where I can get this info from?
Kann
My CD version has a separate booklet with texts translated into Polish.
Voodoogore
no problem at all with this pressing (european). excellent album though a little bit too expected music from waters. in french we would say « un peu téléphoné  ». brilliant production
Braned
Why green vinyl? Seems like a very strange color choice for this album.
Berkohi
always the same frustration: us-releases better sound but poor pressing... eu-releases the opposite... can somebody confirm, that he has a clean us without surface noise and crackling?
Qwne
Just got my copy from Denmark - Numbered No 000999
Jorad
I just received my copy. United states number 2922. I wonder when they say limited number if that “limited number” changes depending on the orders they receive?
Ieregr
Got this record alongside tickets to see Waters live. I see that people have surface noise, but my copy didn't get any. My copy is great. Amazing record.
Cordaron
i got number 3649. preordered it in empik online store, poland.
Gavirgas
stunning effort from Roger Waters, the record plays beautifully. I've got no.6237, in Australia.

Gorgeous psychedelic green marbled vinyl. The vinyl is reasonable quiet, flat, centered, and sounds great. This release is far superior to the terrible quality US black vinyl copy I bought last year. That release had ridiculous amounts of surface noise that really deterred me from wanting to play it. They must have pressed quite a few as my copy was #10185.
Spilberg
My US copy has excessive surface noise-- far too many ticks and pops. Ruins the presentation of the music. This LP was expensive given the shoddy pressing quality. Pretty lame.
Milleynti
This type of music is much better in cd format.
Tcaruieb
Number 009474. I living in Brazil. purchased by amazon UK
Arar
Mine is also from amazon uk Number 009734, they must have a batch in the 009xxx's. I got mine a couple of days ago, was surprised to see the Green Vinyl still available.
Early Waffle
Not sure how many are out there, hoped Discogs knew. I have two copies the other half got me a copy!! I have 276 & 819, from the UK. But all said the number suggests 10,000+, big numbers. On the music the most Floydian solo album from Roger., but then it had to be to slot the songs into the Us & Them tour. Logical really......... Hopefully RW releases the tab for the album
Tebei
Mine is number 2524 from France. By the way this album should have been called "Animals - part II". My favorite album from Roger.
Zulkigis
Mine's 670, from France amazon. So not sure countries were assigned specific ranges.
Preve
Interesting take. Also that's a decent number. Mine's 9619. That's what the the runout data here was based on. Can anyone else confirm "Bazza Alchemy" on side A, or is that an indication of multiple pressings?
Zulurr
I've also got a copy (No 000815) I live in the UK, so it looks like, as has been said, certain countries got certain batch numbers. I've tried numerous Roger/Floyd websites, but none have an exact number, which have been issued, or what it's limited to, (yet).
Hucama
Dutch websites mentioned 500. But that seemed to be the nummer of copies allocated to Dutch shops. So 15.000 at least, maybe 20.000 it looks like.
Kefrannan
And in my case it’s number 1586 bought in the Netherlands.
Acrobat
Record store where I bought it from claimed it was limited to 500 copies, but it has a number higher than 10000 stamped on it. So they don't seem too limited at all.
Beardana
any ideas on the numbers my copy is 10'000 + so assuming at least 20'000
Beabandis
Superb album, really merits 5 stars. Only thing that disturbs me is his disdain for political figures prominently displayed. Wasn't necessary to get so political, specially in such manner. If you ignore these putdowns it's really an excellent album, .
Freaky Hook
I'm the opposite. I agree with his stance but find the music incredibly boring - bar a few bright spots such as the title track.
Winail
I feel like it's the disregard and lack of sympathy for opposing and old fashioned political views that was the idea. It's not a pleasant subject and it's easy to argue over politics over anything else since everyone has some stance on it whether or not they care to debate about it. Left and right winged views are so vastly different as well as completely and utterly opposite to eachother.
Deeroman
Does anyone know about a misprint of this vinyl lp?I have the european version (88985 43649 1 5) and the side A label is none existent and instead it has the side B label. So vinyl one has double side B labellingCan anybody explain this?
Oveley
Wonder what happened to RTI's quality control. Loads of pops and clicks throughout. They used to be one of the very best pressing plants and now...this.
Dilkree
I bought this LP when he came by on his 'Us + Them' tour - god what a good show that was. This album is great, too!
skyjettttt
I have opened 4 different copies, all of them had scruffs and damage.. and the asshole at sony music, tells me that is is like never happening.... somebody at the press factory should loose their job...
Sermak Light
those scuffs come from the shitty paper they use, all the new records i've bought in recent years are scuffed as soon as i take them out of the sleeve for the first time
caster
Still has fire in his belly!!!! I love this album - Deja Vu is simply amazingly, everything you can expect from Mr Waters and more!!!
greed style
On my disks the one with side A and B has the label with side C and side D glued on it (Made in EU) - somebody has the same issue?Nice album, nice recording and engineering with a little bit too much overall compression / limiting.
Uleran
I have the european version (88985 43649 1 5) and the side A label is none existent and instead it has the side B label. So vinyl one has double side B labelling...i wonder whats going on...
Gelgen
I've seen 4 copies of this vinyl and all of them had scuffing on the second disc. My third copy plays though without problems on the scuffing marks, while the first had scratch noises passing over the marks. It's the luck of the draw with this pressing. Open your copy up before leaving shop. It will be very difficult selling any of these pressings as Near Mint second hand.
Nanecele
I won a copy of this. What is it's approximate worth? It's priceless to me!
Gadar
Excellent vinyl records. Roger Waters is a great artist and the songs too. I recommand to guet this record.
Jorius
Mine pulled out scuffed as well, plus vinyl debris like spider web...hate those paper sleeves. Album is great though...
Nto
My copy is also scuffed. It plays with light 'ticks' on some sides/songs. Indeed a bit sad that the record companies don't see the need to include quality inner sleeves to protect the records. Instead if printed inner sleeves, just give us nice poly lined sleeves and a printed insert for the lyrics or additional info.
Biaemi
Mine's a flawless copy as well but I wish it came with a poly inner-sleeve. Great great mastering. Superb sonics and a few solid tunes with a lot of help from old ones!
Kirizius
Yep. Polylined inners are what ALL records should come in. Paper and cardboard inner sleeves simply scuff the surface of the record. This isn't rocket science yet here we are in 2018 STILL getting new LPs without polylined inners despite having to pay through the nose for them.
lets go baby
Received a flawless pressing, without a single blemish, pop, or crackle. Vinyl sounds lovely and smooth. There's actually some nice dynamic range as well. Love Roger, love this album! Content wise, I'll say this album is appropriately Roger, and quite appropriately relevant.
Silly Dog
Really bad vinyl pressing. After 4 opened records I give up. All scuffled. Sound is not so much affected, but looks like you treated the records bad. Shame on Columbia, to let this out to the stores.
Wrathshaper
In comparison to a "normal" Pop-Album in these times it sounds great. For Pink Floyd/Roger waters fans it sounds less dynamic. Far away from late Pink Floyd and ATD. The drums are mixed too defensive, no bass-sound. And by the way, there is nothing new on this album...
Vudojar
@Iv426ify: got 4 copies (european pressing). They all had thin scratches. Looked like a secondhand lp. However these scratches didn't affect the sound. Only visual. In my opinion it's not acceptable, so I returned them.
Jarortr
The record sounds excellent, really quiet and spacious. There's a dynamic flow to the track listing. I can just imagine a Gilmour guitar lead on "Picture That".
Micelhorav
Great album! Maybe his best solo performance. The lyrics are angry and poetic at the same time. Waters at his best.
Flocton
Not in the same league as Blackstar but this IS Pink Floyd more than Gilmour will ever be. Great lyrics. Best LP after Amused to Death. Nice one Rog. Try and get another one in eh?
Went Tyu
I wasn't expecting another "amused to death" ???? album ( as this one for me is worthy of all PF collection together ) ???? my first impression is of a sad old man playing guitar and moaning next to some radio that spits out some news update that drives us all miserable ⚰️ Still it might take time for me to find if this album makes perfect sense. But I'll stand by Roger no matter what
asAS
Nice album. Three sides are in fact a continuation of The Wall. At least in music. And the lyrics are great.Side D is a little bit more 'Animals'. I see now why Roger did not make a record since 1992. In fact this is his best record since the Wall, but it's not very special and not very renewing. He can't do what e.g. David Bowie could: astonish his public with something really good and new at old age. But maybe we expect too much from Roger. It's a decent record though. The record quality of the vinyl is good. The vinylmix is also good. Not as good as the last two Pink Floyd records, but good.
Dianaghma
I don't agree with you, but it's also not what I meant. I was referring to the vinyl in the last sentence, not to the music. The last two records of Pink Floyd were recorded fabulously and have a very good vinylmix. But I also think that The Division Bell is much better then everything Roger Waters has done solo. He made great records and indeed he was Pink floyd for a while, until The Wall. After that he lost it completely and I think this record is his best since The Wall. But as it is with every other piece of music: that's just a matter of taste :-)
Mash
Seriously? This IS Pink Floyd. Not the shit Gilmour makes with his wife. Couldn't be more AnimalsWelcome to the machine if it tried.
Saberdragon
I Really enjoyed this album. Came with a digital download, always a bonus. This is the first solo record I have heard from Waters, I will be getting the others. Played the first record, had a good sound for my basic record player.
Yanthyr
Badly scuffed discs which HMV were more than happy to replace, opened 3 further albums in store to find them all the same.Let's hope the repress is soon
Levaq
Why is US version so expensive compared to EU version ? We're talking x 2 here.
Zulkishicage
The CD sounds terrible, is the LP any better? Heres Hoping ... I'm not sure how he mastered it, infact it wouldnt not surprise me if he attempted to do it all himself.
Velan
giroserex I'm not sure how he mastered it, infact it wouldnt not surprise me if he attempted to do it all himself. Maybe you should read the credits, just saying...
Morlunn
LP is even darker in sound due to distortion of bass that is typical for vinyl.
Realistic
Exactly the same master on CD and LP. The production is very dim and bassy.
Risteacor
LP version absolutely better. Hearing it in headphones is fantastic.
Falya
Nothing but average sound and music 25 years back (with very little progress), too familiar (as I would know every song) and too close to old times.Content of words/lyrics is great, but music close to background music for elevators: without edges, surprises or anything else interesting. Only side D is touchy and emotional - that's all within 25 years? You better take all the "Wall"-songs which are not popular but rather depressive and you got sides A, B and C. Boring average, sorry.Maybe a book would have been a better choice ... the artwork of the vinyl is well done, would fit to a book also ...
Bremar
Great album. Side D marked/scratched though, trying to get replacement from HMV online.
Dusar
I never thought to get HMV to open it to check. Noted for future purchases. When I opened mine at home there were some surface marks and scuffs on both records (as is sadly all too common these days) but none of them affect playback at all, and that's after listening to it via headphones. LPs now decanted to polylined sleeves.
Jugami
HMV staff went out of their way to exchange damaged grazed disc copy. After opening 3 new albums in store we found one with only a minor marks to disc 2 that I excepted and it plays fine. BEWARE, check the discs before leaving shop.
Iseared
Worthy successor to the fantastic Amused to Death. Roger proves he is still a lyrical genius, and while sonically this is very reminiscent to his days in Pink Floyd, there are plenty of signatures to tie it back to Roger's earlier solo albums. Highly recommended.
