Supertramp - Casual Conversations. The Logical Song is a song by the English rock group Supertramp that was released as the lead single from their album Breakfast in America in March 1979. It was written primarily by the band's Roger Hodgson, who based the lyrics on his experiences being sent away to boarding school for ten years. The song became Supertramp's biggest hit, rising to No. 7 in the UK and No. 6 on the US Billboard chart. In 2001, a cover version by the band Scooter returned the song to the top 10 in several European. The Logical Song is a hit single on Supertramp's 1979 album Breakfast in America and written and sung by band member Roger Hodgson. It is one of the band's most recognized songs. This simple song makes use of keyboards, castanets, and a guitar break with a strong Beatles influence. The song includes a section of Hodgson reeling off three- and four-syllable assonances with a schoolboy's tongue in cheek. Among the contemporary sound effects in this song are the 'tackled' sound from a Mattel digital football game, as well as read more. The Logical Song was the lead single from Supertramps chart-topping album Breakfast In America. It was internationally successful, reaching the top 20 in several countries including a 6 peak in the US and a 7 peak in the UK their best showing in both countries. In Canada, The Logical Song not only topped the Canada Singles Chart, but was the 1 song of the entire year. It was in early 1978 that The Logical Song started coming together. The band were in Los Angeles, about to begin recording the Breakfast in America album, when Hodgson sat alone at a Wurlitzer electric piano and began playing around with a chord progression hed toyed with, off and on, for a couple of months. Speaking of the connection in 1979 at a time when the songwriters were at odds, Davies said to Melody Maker: 'School' was a device, in some ways. I don't know whether Roger would be able to associate too much with that, although I can see the connection with 'Logical Song. Roger went straight from public school to a rock group, so his personal experience is a bit limited in that ar. After engineering Supertramp's Even In The Quietest Moments and Frank Zappa's Sheik Yerbouti, Henderson went freelance in 1978 and co-produced the Climax Blues Band's Gold Plated and a Tubes live album. Geoff Emerick had been asked to engineer Even In The Quietest Moments, and when he couldn't do it I ended up doing the recording and he ended up doing the mix, Henderson explains. The Logical Song.
