Not perfect but certainly a huge improvement over previous pressing. Technically my 2 records are perfect. No off-center holes, scratches or noticeably warped.I compared it against digital (just regular MP3 320 kpbs through DAC) side by side and it's noticeably more spacious and rich. I think that a lot of emphasis and care were put into bringing Silberman's voice up front as he carries the narrative. Thirteen is breathtaking and even more hauntingly beautiful than anywhere else. There are however some sections of noticeable surface noise, coincidentally on the more distorted parts of the album but I guess that’s left to the ear of the beholder.All in all a release that satisfies.

Really an improvement in pressing quality and sound. Still not perfect. The center holes of both discs aren't exactly in the center. This album would deserve the perfect treatment and being pressed in a high-standard pressing plant like Record-Industry or RTI.

The remaster is definitely an improvement. Very quiet pressing. I’m glad it’s spread over two discs. Unfortunately both of my discs have a slight warp but the sound isn’t impacted. I prefer this version over the original pressing and the cd.

Can confirm it's light years ahead of the original. Probably the first time I've actually heard some of the notes on "Two" and "Shiva." "Epilogue" in particular sounds better than it does on digital.The only issue I have is that there's some surface noise at the beginning of "Wake" but it's built into the song so that's more an issue with the song than the vinyl.

I find it incredibly odd that so many people, over 5 years after this semi obscure record release have thought this album sounds bad. I've had this since the day it came out, and have never once thought it sounded bad. It almost feels like, especially considering all the recent reviews, it's some weird marketing ploy. Just so odd. Colored vinyl and vinyl that hasn't been remastered and from the same mix, will sound at best the same as the original pressing unless it was pressed at a better plant, which the new release hasn't been. I don't buy these reviews at all.

I'm a huge fan of this album and bought this press sealed new. Despite overt surface noise the mastering was extremely bad and sounded horrible on my hifi setup, as many more will attest. Grab the new issue and hear for yourself. It sounds like a whole different album.

This has been a common issue that people have had for years.It is being listed as remastered on many sites ( https://www.roughtrade.com/us/music/the-antlers-hospice-remastered-version https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MS59Z87?tag=upcomingvinyl-20 https://www.directaudio.net/products/the-antlers-hospice-10th-anniversary-remastered-version-colored-vinyl-2lp ) plus on the discogs listing for it, so there's that.Plus putting it on two slabs of wax would serve to include sound quality by at least some margin, seeing as the album is 52 minutes long and shouldn't have been put on 1xLP in the first place.You more than likely received a pressing with minimal surface noise and didn't notice just how flat the record sounded. You're more than willing to believe an indie label would spend nearly 10 years shittalking its own pressing of its own album on discogs and other websites + in real life conversations just so they could repress it on vinyl that costs like 4 dollars more than the original (because it's on 2xLP), but do you genuinely think that's the case?

The album has been lauded for its "power to emotionally destroy listeners". This is true. The sound on this absolutely horrendous pressing is so noisy and muddled that it could make anyone cry in frustration.Such a shame that such a spectacular album received such a poor pressing.

I got a copy of this from VNYL and it's horribly off-center. The sound is distorted and crackly. I'm assuming the grooves have been affected because the sound clarity and volume vary with each rotation. The music is great, but this pressing is terrible.

First play was rough, same issues as everyone else here is saying. My gf suggested cleaning it, and that helped as dramatically as this album is. AllI did was wipe it with a microfiber cloth. I plan on cleaning it again after it finishes playing, and probably every other time I want to destroy my emotions going forward.

Ordered one through my local store - pressing is horrible. Sound quality is a rollercoaster in sync with the rotation of the record; heavy distortion throughout the entire record, as well as loads of surface noise. Returned it to the store and ordered a second one in hopes of getting a better copy. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, as the second one was the same or even worse. So that got send back too!The album is a masterpiece but the vinyl is a mess. Too bad!

After only ever hearing this album from a digital download, I was happy to get the vinyl and hear that it sounds very clean & clear! Better than the digital. I knew that the album was recorded fairly low fidelity, so it's nice to hear it cleaned up well.I can't say I've experienced any of the speed or sound quality issues that some people have mentioned here.Another pro of the vinyl is reading the lyrics from the included printed insert while listening; this album is a ride!

I've got no issues with my pressing. The speed is accurate, and the sound is much nicer than digital. Centering seems to be as good as any, and as for the lack of bottom end, it is certainly there when the band desires (Shiva, in particular), but I think that overall, there just isn't a lot of low end presence and "oomph" because that simply isn't what was intended. I've listened to the digital version of this over the same system as I'm listening to the LP, and I find the vinyl superior to the digital, much more clear and defined.

i thought this too when i first put it on, but eventually i turned the bass on my stereo receiver to -4 (usually at +2-3) and my treble down to +4 (usually+5-6) and it sounded really good. maybe you have an EQ problem.

I've read a few comments regarding the speed issues of the record. After hearing this album through multiple formats I've concluded it has nothing to do with the record, it's actually a part of the music. The ambient samples drift in and out of tempo underneath the song, adding a dream like texture. Keep in mind, this is a concept album dealing with life, death, and dreams. It wouldn't be beyond the band to incorporate rich atmospheres to the record. 5/5.

I just received this album just today. The pressing quality is rather poor and even worse, the center hole is not in the center, so the speed of the music goes up and down. Really disappointing, as this is such a fine piece of music.

I came across this album through a copy of Q Music Magazine, who rated the album highly. And only until now have i gotten round to listening to it....and by god its pretty damn impressive.Im going through a stage at the moment with my music where i keep listening to 'depressing' albums; or albums with a slow, sad feel to them - purely because my music always runs parallel with how i feel.OK let me get this straight, i dont expect people to cry listening to this album....i dont ever cry from just listening to something unless im very emotional and about to cry in the first place...do not listen to this album and think 'BRING IT ON make me cry'. Although some people have said its made them cry...ive listened to too much music not to get that involved with it...because i listen to my music in public, people might get a bit scared if i start crying in the street, in the store or on the train.But i will say this - this album did make my insides twitch a little. The whole album is a story, which is evident from researching the album in general. If it is a true story or not that is another question, but anyway besides the point because this story, that is more common to appear as text in a book, is told so well it has the same effect as reading a book or watching a film - which is not an easy thing with music.As im sure you know with most sad albums, songs, the tempo is very slow - so it may come as a bore to those more used to listening to more mainstream music. But this album is anything but a bore, okay if you were not paying attention you would think 'the hell is this, who finds this entertaining' - so to see the hype behind this album you need to listen to it a bit more closely - and i very much recommend getting the lyrics as the vocals are not always the most clearest thing and the instrumental can sometimes over power the quiet vocals. That brings me to the fact that the whole feeling of the album, is only just enhanced with the vocals - almost like a quiet cry. Can't say so much about some of the instruments used that can at times appear as a paradox to the meaning of the song. Bear for example has quite a happy-indie feel to it, musically..but when you read into it its lyrics and meanings are anything but.A little warning for first timers, so the majority of this album is quiet...but this album has more emotions running through it than a love-obsessed hormonal teenager - so yes at points the volume of the album almost doubles. I always find this album more effective to listen to using headphones/earphones - purely because you can hear everything more clearly thus understanding the meaning of the album.At time of writing i give it a 4/5 - but most likely after many re-listens that will go up to a 5. A 4 for now because i havent let myself into the whole of this album, because it is one of the deepest, and most consistent albums ive listened too. Also the fact that each song is another 'chapter' to the story - listening to just one track will make you want to listen to the next, and sooner or later you've listened to the whole album.My favourite tracks from this album are Bear (5) and Epilogue (10).Bear because of its 3 minutes and 54 seconds of a paradox, which i think is a really interesting feature to the album, and shows how talented the writers (the band) are.Epilogue because for me it IS the most depressing, deep, emotional, powerful song on the album (**SPOILER**) as its about her (the girl who has cancer, the love interest) death. Of course ive heard of songs about loved ones dying (for example As Your Voice Fades by Emery) but ive never heard it in such a way as The Antlers portray it. For story albums its one of the best endings i've heard (even in comparison to films or books).

This album is, for those who dont know - about a girl who has cancer, and the songs are written from her fathers point of view - as far as i know. This music is some of the most sad, depressing stuff ive ever heard. Their lyrics are genius. They remind me of the sort of songs they play on british drama's when someones being rushed into hospital, and they are showing a montage of whats happening then and whats happening to everyone else. I will give this hint, its best to listen to this music using headphones or loudly...as their vocalist is quiet - to help the feeling. A recommend if you like artists like Bon Iver.
