Hey Jude original title: The Beatles Again is a 1970 collection of non-album singles and B-sides by the Beatles. It included I Should Have Known Better and Can't Buy Me Love, two singles released by Capitol Records whose only previous American album appearance had been on the A Hard Day's Night soundtrack album, which had been released by United Artists Records. The Beatles recorded 25 takes of Hey Jude at Abbey Road Studios in two nights, 29 and 30 July 1968. These were mostly rehearsals, however, because they planned to record the master track at Trident Studios to utilise their eight-track recording machine Abbey Road was still limited to four-tracks. One take from 29 July is available on the Anthology 3 master rhythm track was recorded on 31 July at Trident. The recording notes for Hey Jude were bought at auction by Julian Lennon in 1996 for 25,000. In 2002 a sale of the original handwritten lyrics was announced by Christies in London, with an estimated price of 80,000. Paul McCartney took out a court order to prevent the auction, saying the paper had disappeared from his London home. Anthology 3 contained take two of Hey Jude, recorded on 29 July 1968. On February 7, 1964, The Beatles arrived at New Yorks John F. Kennedy Airport, greeted by scores of screaming, swooning fans who rushed the gate to catch a glimpse of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr as they took their first steps on American soil. Two nights later, on Sunday, February 9, 73 million viewers in the U. and millions more in Canada tuned in to CBS to watch The Beatles make their American television debut on The Ed Sullivan Show. Three direct cut test discs were cut of each release, the best of the 3 was then used to press the run from with the other two of the 3 supposedly destroyed. This was a test disc for US and Japan Best of the Beatles 1969 press ( there was a later 1975 repress, the 69 test disc being considerably thicker than the 1975 one, this listing is for the 1969 test record so no printed cover was ever made as it was produced for purely in house production purposes. I have two of these, both in opened shrink. Both have the "Hey Jude" sticker centered on the top front of the album cover. One has the sticker on the actual album cover and the other has the sticker directly on the shrink. Any additional information on this would be very much appreciated. (I've included the images of both albums). One was acquired from an older cousin who purchased it brand new. The other was was given to me by an uncle that worked at the Winchester plant in Virginia.

this album has a great STEREO version of "Rain". Rain was a b-side on the Paperback Writer 7", and was in mono. In my opinion, Rain was the 1st "eastern" sounding "PSYCHEDELIC" song they made, any onewho flipped that 7" record over and heard it should have been hit in the head by a 2x4 because that was the initial moment you would have heard that EASTERN PSYCHEDELIC DOOR OPEN... listen to the vocal treatments on the chorus etc... but, that's just my 2 cents... stereo version on this compilation...

No doubt the Chilean tape release has a curious name for a record known as "Hey Jude". The reason was very simply, "Hey Jude" record must be the first or one of the first albums in stereo released by Chilen EMI Odeon label. So, to make the difference "Hey Jude" and all new vinyls from then, had the inscription "MONO-STEREO COMPATIBLE" at the top of the back cover. Surely, as the LP "Hey Jude" had no visible title, the tape edition took that "Compatible" term from the ignorance of what that meant, and it sounded good for a title.

Yes if you want the complete Beatles music you need this. This isn't a record of demos and outtakes. There were many classic Beatles song that were never on a Beatles album but only released as a single. This album compiles those songs. Although the 2LP Past Masters set does a more complete job of compiling these singles. To have all The Beatles music you would need the 13 (UK) albums and then the 2LP Past Masters set or, alternatively, this album. Again, Past Masters is more complete. There is a rarities disc that comes with the blue box that has a lot of what comes on the Past Masters set so maybe you only want this, hard to say. Regardless, these are not demos - Hey Jude, for example, one of The Bealtes most famous songs was never on one of their albums it was only released as a single and then on subsequent compilations such as this. I had this record for years and eventually got the Past Masters 2LP set, but kept this record nonetheless because I am used to the sequence of this compilation and have been listening to it for years.

Can someone confirm that this truly a UK pressing exported to Greece???If so, then Is this from the SAME highly-tauted UK lacquer cut (circa 1970 through 1973, including the supposedly great sounding 1973 UK export for US) with matrices 150-1 and 151-1? or a different lacquer cut?

The absolute best CD transfer I have ever come across can be heard/found on a 2 CD un-official release on the Beat Label: "Rarities 4, We Want To Hold Your Hand", Beat Catalog # Beat 017-2. The transfer is indeed of the original 1970 mix, sounding extremely clear, pristine, and dynamic - surpassing both the UK + US Dr. Ebbett's CD editions. I have no idea what Beat used for their source material, but gut feeling tells me it would be either a Japan pressed LP or the Ampex open reel issue.

my copy of hey jude (U.S.) is not listed here, my run out groove has (SIDE 1) SO 1 385 Z32 (SIDE 2) SO 2 385 Z36 with a bell sound stamp, SF and a Winchester symbol, I bought this copy off ebay and it is still in the shrink-wrap with a price tag still attached ( the stores name the record was originally purchased in was called (Jordan marsh) the record cover does not have the RIAA award symbol, since out of so many matrix # and I could not find a match it has left me wondering what year pressing I have, any help would be gratefully appreciated for sure......thanks!

I have a similar release from my Dad's collection from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, home of Jordan Marsh, upscale department store. Mine is Z31 with three dots under it and Z36 with three dots under it. Both sides say "SO" with a "W" written over top of the "O" (or vice versa). I am finding a few oddballs from my Fort Lauderdale collection, I'm thinking because distribution down there was an exception.
