Blueprints for a Blackout is the fourth album and the first double album by Dutch post-punk band The Ex, originally released in 1984. It was the first of The Ex's albums to feature Luc playing bass guitar and he would remain as the band's bass player for 20 years. The album also featured many guest musicians, a notable trend in The Ex's discography that would provide musical elements unique to each of their albums. THE EX is a punk, industrial and experimental band from Amsterdam, Netherlands. They formed in 1979 at the height of the original punk explosion and have released over twenty full-length albums since, making them one of the longest-lived and most influential underground bands still in existence. THE EX just celebrated its 33 year anniversary with a series of festivals. Not merely retrospective but primarily forward-looking and adventurous. The Ex have defied categorization ever since they started playing in 1979. The Ex began in 1979 and have developed over the years into a melting pot of divergent musical styles, interweaving noise, folk, jazz and ethnic music, under unique umbrella: Ex-music. Other features are the discordant, highly rhythmic guitar work, the rolling almost African drumming style and the furious way in which Sok delivers his often sarcastic lyrics. They set a significant example for the alternative music circuit by the manner in which their records, accompanied by posters, booklets and other relevant readings, are released and distributed by the group itself. The Ex starts recording Pokkeherrie, once more a tight ramshackling guitar record.
