About Album

Let It Be is the third studio album by American rock band The Replacements. It was released on October 2, 1984 by TwinTone Records. A post-punk album with coming-of-age themes, Let It Be was recorded by the band after they had grown tired of playing loud and fast exclusively as on their 1983 Hootenanny album the group decided to write songs that were, according to vocalist Paul Westerberg, a little more sincere. Their cover of Kiss Black Diamond is pure rock thunder, but Unsatisfied, Androgynous, Sixteen Blue, and Answering Machine are cries from the heart that established Paul Westerberg as a singer for misfits everywhere. His cracked, pained vocals are beyond compare. Even silly stuff like Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out and Garys Got a Boner rock with heart. Let It Be looms large among '80s rock albums, generally regarded as one of the greatest records of the decade. So large is its legend and so universal its acclaim that all the praise tends to give the impression that the Replacements' fourth album was designed as a major statement, intended to be something important when its genius, like so many things involving the 'Mats, feels accidental. Let It Be - четвёртый студийный альбом американской рок-группы The Replacements, выпущенный в октябре 1984 года на лейбе TwinTone Records. Ко времени выхода альбома Hootenanny 1983 года участники группы устали играть исключительно громкую и быструю музыку и решили написать песни, которые были, по словам вокалиста Пола Вестерберга, немного более искренними. Let It Be is the third album by the Replacements. Antagonized by the constraints of the more traditional punk rock theyd been playing on their first two records, the band had been acting out against the punk establishment. They dressed in skirts and flannel and played covers by decidedly non-punk artists like Kiss, T. Rex and Hank Williams. So, with Let It Be, the band decided to rebel against punk and try to form a new sound for themselves. Thus, the album is often described as post-punk , despite being more in tune with the alternative rock scene of the 1980s with bands like . The Replacements last album for TwinTone before signing with Sire, 1984's Let It Be is widely hailed as not just one of the group's career best, but also as an across the boards alt-rock masterpiece. When The Replacements released Let It Be in October of 1984, it suprised many as both a big leap forward for the band and as a record of raw, heartfelt emotion. The Replacements were and always will be the greatest rock band to me. To really understand them is to understand the flaws in every human being. They were not perfect and they were not trying to be perfect

The Replacements and their unique brand of loud, brash, conversely pop-inflected punk had eluded me until a recommendation led me to acquire this album, their fourth, which offered them their first taste of mainstream recognition back in 1984 and went on to become regarded as one of the greatest records of the decade. A punchy, small-scale effort, the lyrical material ranges from heartfelt, funny, throwaway to offbeat, but the production and instrumentation is consistently marvellous, gritty sounding and perfectly suited to the high and low cultural hodgepodge of subject matter. In terms of sonics and production, I would rate it higher than the other 'Mats albums, but despite many of the compositions being haunting in their subtle power yet ragged and messy in their delivery, in comparison to the band's decidedly cleaner fifth record, 'Tim', 'Let It Be' stands tall above the rest purely on the merits of its breathless pacing alone. 'Let It Be' competently captures the rawness and adolescent angst of the early-to-mid '80s indie explosion and repackages it as ferocious, rhythmic punk rock, albeit with some elements of crass humour, furious rock and spartan folk instrumentation to achieve a more distinctive post-punk sound than their transatlantic counterparts. RATING OUT OF FIVE: *****P.S. I purchased this 1993 CD pressing as the subsequent and widely available reissues are, by all accounts, rather compressed.
OTANO
One of the few pressings of an album I regret selling.
Ueledavi
Have the case, missing the tape. Looking to buy just the tape if anyone has the opposite issue. Thanks!
Usishele
Great pressing with strong bass. This cuts off the countoff beginning of Answering Machine, I assume this was the same case for the boxset pressing of this record.

I haven't looked at the matrix/runout grooves on my copy, but I will say that for colored vinyl, this sounds fantastic. It's very clear and dynamic (why wouldn't it be). I easily give it 5 stars. One of my favorite albums of all time, I don't have to say anything more. (I noticed the lack of photos before, so I'm the one that added the photos along with close ups of the labels. I hope that helps.)
Kiutondyl
The colored red Hootenanny also sounds great! as good as my first press
Moswyn
How come no one has pointed out that the blue label US versions of this album have the track listing wrong? The songs from side one are all listed on the side two label, and vice versa. If you're not looking at the track names and just play Side one, Unsatisfied is the first track, but really that is the first song on side two (as designated on the back of the jacket).
Direbringer
For those apprehensive about many of todays reissues, they did an incredible job with these. Excellent pressing quality, great mastering, affordable price...All good. We can finally get a copy of this for $20 instead of $100.
NiceOne
My other version of the UK press has these matrix etchings too but not these zippo labels.
Burgas
This has stuff etched into the run out grooves. Anyone else? I have porky prime cut on both & no hard posing & I'm sorry I'm not at home.
Billy Granson
Is anyone else's regular '84 pressing pressed on see through black vinyl? Mine has the same labels and cover but you can easily see through it when held next to a light.
mr.Mine
Yeah, I've got this pressing as well. Just noticed this.
Diab
The blue vinyl version is not a repress, it was made to run out the last of the original covers. It actually makes the blue vinyl version the rarest original pressed version.
Voodoosida
The blue vinyl version is not a repress, it was made to run out the last of the original covers. It actually makes the blue vinyl version the rarest original pressed version. That is my understanding, only 27,000 were pressed, the last 1000 being blue.
adventure time
It pretty much is a repress. The jackets were left over, but the blue vinyl was pressed in the late 80s, early 90s, as were versions of "Stink" on gray marble vinyl and another album I can't recall, but was red, I think -- "Trash" or "Hootenanny," obviously. Still a nice collector item though.

According the the Twin/Tone Replacements page here: http://www.twintone.com/projects/8441.htmlthe last 1000 copies were pressed in the late '80s on colored vinyl, so the colored versions would be represses. I don't have an answer for the different labels tho. A 2nd pressing perhaps but they'd changed the label look by then?Neither of these versions are in the database, so you two should submit your copies. Note the differences in the Format free-text field (the color of the vinyl; I think they were blue translucent, and Repress). I think the different label should be mentioned in the notes, but you might want to add that info to the Format free-text field as well.To get more accurate help on how this should be done, start a topic in this forum: http://www.discogs.com/help/forums/board/17

Mine is not colored.. I believe it's a first press, but i'm not 100% on that, especially with the label difference

Is it colored vinyl? I have the same label on blue vinyl.
