When Tool released their fourth album, 10,000 Days on May 2, 2006, fans had been waiting five years for the follow-up to Lateralus. Before that, they waited five years for the follow-up to Ænima. You couldnt fault the quartet for what they did with the time: Each Tool LP is an exercise in dense, experimental, multi-textured expression that couldnt come together quickly. The title 10,000 Days was soon used online as a reference to fans waiting times, but it may itself have been an indicator of how the band had changed again and, in particular, how frontman Maynard James Keenan had changed. Clever
I have a copy of this, NM quality, if you want it send me a message. Thanks.
Ygglune
This is the nicest bootleg I own. Cannot recommend more. Do not buy the red, alternate cover non-gatefold version.
Cozius
As far as Unofficial releases go, this is by far one of the best I own. I'm running Kef-Q150 speakers and a Pro-ject Essential lll turntable. The record itself sounds really good. It has punch and the highs and lows are on par with the CD it was transferred from. At the end of the day, if you need to add this one to your collection, it's not going to disappoint. It's a tight sounding Unofficial release. Cheers
Phobism
I have to disagree with rafavelez2 about the quality of this bootleg. The set I have are very clicky and poppy, but that likely has to do with whatever factory they came out of. I doubt bootlegging has a lot of quality control happening, caveat emptor. The mastering job was not very well done. I suspect it was done with a mono lathe from a compressed MP3 file. Side C sounds especially bad starting with The Pot. But don't take this review for it, have a listen to the video I linked. Having said that, I would like to remind everyone that 10,000 Days has never had an official LP release. EVER. Hopefully in the future Maynard will regain full control over the music and produce "real" LP's through Puscifer.com. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed until then and not buying new albums off of bloody Ebay.Edit: Ironically, my video for this Bootleg has been blocked in most territories for copyright violations, so as much as I'd like you to hear how terrible it sounds I can't actually link it here. I'd say I'm sorry, but it's truly sparing your ears. I have added a picture comparing the original MP3 for this album to this bootleg though.
Awene
I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to see when I look at the artwork through the glasses...
Winail
Very good quality for the picture disc. Probably the best sounding picture disc in my collection. I like how bass elastic the thing is. I would give it a overall 8/10.
Nern
During the past month I bought fa copy of Tool's 10.000 days on red vinyl.I am pretty close to 3.000 thousand titles on vinyl and I can't believe how good this pressing is. It doesn't seem to be an unofficial pressing. Extremely quiet, rich highs and rich lows. As good or pretty close to Lateralus official pressing.Since the purchase, became one of my favorites vinyls.Cant't get enough of It.
Danskyleyn
ok, i bought it yesterday and i have to say, that this pressing sounds outstanding! Clear, without any distortion, no clicks and pops and the dynamic range is here on very high level!Highly recommended!
Siralune
What exactly does "partially unofficial" mean? I was under the assumption that this was never released on vinyl?
Cordann
LuxTheDude i think it is an unofficial release that does not break any copyright laws. LOL, how can a not offically licensed release not break any copyright law?
Westened
It is a bootleg release, so the band and record company, who own the rights to the music, did not approve this AND are not the ones who produced and released it. So ofcourse it breaks copyright laws. It´s an illegal copy.
Mikale
"partially" is bs. the album was never released on vinyl. this is a bootleg that's been floating around eBay and such.
Xtani
"I'm not 100% sure, but i think it is an unofficial release that does not break any copyright laws."
Shazel
What was the reason? I don't see the comment that explains it
Runeshaper
Good to know! That's the first time I've ever seen anything listed as that and a quick google search wasn't pulling up much.
AGAD
Wow! I came across this release on the 17th as well, and wondered the exact same thing. So i tried to find out. I'm not 100% sure, but i think it is an unofficial release that does not break any copyright laws.
Vit
On my copy the label for side A is on the B side and vice versa. Is this also the case on anyone else's copy? The sound is very good. Would recommend.
Winenama
Mine is the same. I have other LPs with the same issue that are official releases so I can live with this.
PC-rider
I have the same issue with my copy. Other than that, just some crackling at the beginning of each side, otherwise a very good pressing.
Hellblade
I have wanted a version of this on vinyl for many years. Finally I managed to contact the right person who just so happened to have a copy willing to sell. This unofficial release sounds pretty awesome. Would recommend, and the price point was not too bad either.
Preve
I was very happily surprised by the quality of sound on this bootleg. Artwork is somewhat blurry and lacking (obviously) compared to the cd release, but since official vinyl release at the time of writing remains unavailable, I can easily recommend this bootleg as a substitute.
fire dancer
I ordered a couple of these, one to play and one to hang on to if anything happens to the first. The price was really good, the quality was even better for a bootleg. Mirrors the artwork of the official release really well.
Foiuost
Where did you find yours? I want one really bad. My bootleg is cool but this artwork is great.
Fesho
Disk 1 plays flawlessly. Disk 2 side C is good, but side D has a brief instance of regular clicking during Right in Two. There looks to be a blemish on the record there. Pretty sweet sounding bootleg though.
Akir
I feel like the vocals are extremely quiet and the bass is extremely overpowered. Looks good, no complaints aesthetically, except that it is a simple barebones sleeve, I just can't really listen to this like I like to listen to Tool, super loud, because his voice is drowned out and I have to turn the bass to negative just to enjoy it.
Thetalune
as long as no official release on vinyl exists, the only way to obtain this album on vinyl is by buying a bootleg. This one on blue marbled vinyl looks pretty decent but that is not the case when you play both records. The pressing is off on so many levels, it is clear that there was no quality control 'cause it starts with the surface noise, which is worse than a general picture disc. Then there's the fact that just like many recent official pressings especially from the US the hole doesn't seem to be in the middle which makes the music sound unbearable. It's like the whole thing went through a Kevin Shields' (My Bloody Valentine) whammy bar style before pressed on the wax. I am happy that I didn't pay a lot for this double LP, otherwise I would feel screwed. Be careful when buying this record on some market somewhere. You sure will feel disappointed.
Darkshaper
does anyone know if this bootleg sounds any good? my local record store has it for sale and it has aroused my curiosity
Hunaya
I would not recommend buying this copy or any of the bootleg copies. B1+B2: VICARIOUS is very very noisy and it leads into JAMBI | Both of my LPs are warped - RED more then BLUE.
Tantil
I was lucky enough to get this release at a local store for a good price and it sounds absolutely awesome! I have been (re-)discovering this album recently on vinyl and I like it much more than I did back in the day on CD. Recommended if you can find it.
Wenyost
Strode420 is so right! On my "TOOL SD 001" side two has a scratch at the beginning and side 3 has the first 10 minutes unlistenable static.Don´t buy this!
Conjulhala
This is a review to criticize Tool's aesthetic choice to add extraneous and clunky parenthetical addendum to the song titles "Wings For Marie (Pt. 1)" and "10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2)." It looks really stupid and childish in print and I think cheapens the intent of the titles. I know its not a big deal to most people but I felt annoyed enough by it to express my distaste for it. If they really wanted to adhere to sequential numeration of verbal titles the logic insists that it would simply be "Wings For Marie Pt. 1" and "Wings For Marie Pt. 2" or "Wings For Marie I" and "Wings For Maire II" or "10,000 Days Pt. 1" and 10,000 Days Pt. 2" or "10,000 Days I" and 10,000 Days II" like so. They could have simply Named them "Wings For Marie" and "10,000 Days" respectively and left it at that. Anyone who listens to the songs will understand they go together without numeration in the titles but its their songs and they can do what they want. It still drives me nuts though.
Prince Persie
Wifey just read your comment and said 'are you fucking kidding me?'
MOQ
Besides the usual (subtle) distortion picture discs tend to give your stereo this is ok.The mix is a little heavy on the bass but this sounds ok. I'd give that a 7/10 in sound quality.I have not heard the mass of other bootleg vinyls of this record but it sounds as good as the CD on my stereo and is not the same mix.The vinyls are beautiful and heavy.
X-MEN
Tool is just being an ass with not pressing vinyl or not enough, thats why there are so many bootlegs around it's a huge gap in the market!
Gozragore
Mine came with both pieces red, but regardless of color - Don't buy this one!!!! (not that Discogs would let you anyway), pressing is extremely quiet, and the first 2-3 minutes of Side One and Side Three both have unlistenable static. Avoid the pressings with "TOOL SD 001" in the runout at all costs!!!!
SING
Good thing I got this when I did since Discogs now SUCKS!!! I refuse to buy anything from this site now that they are being Vinyl-Nazi's!
Silly Dog
It rhymes. ???? I haven't got 7 more words to type.
Leyl
oh the entitlement , bootleg shite should be outlawed on every site .
Tygralbine
https://www.discogs.com/Tool-10000-Days/release/10221800 It's actually the C/D side to this double picture disc vinyl version only you have the tracklist backwards since songs 1 - 3 here are on side D and songs 4 - 7 are on side C. Like someone else said, this needs to be merged.
Androlhala
Full album remasters coming soon hopefully as confirmed by Danny: https://consequenceofsound.net/2017/08/tool-are-planning-to-remaster-and-reissue-all-their-albums-for-vinyl-release/
Rainpick
I recently found a NM copy at my favoured record store and took the opportunity. Now while the cat# on the back of the sleeve is the one without the Hyphen before "1 LP", the labels are exactly like in this release.Did anybody else recognize something like that?
Nuadazius
I've heard that the bootleg copies of this album have a "pause" in between tracks, including tracks that would typically blend together (lost keys > rosetta stoned). Is that true? I've been considering picking one of these up but not if it has huge pauses in it
Kison
A little late to reply to you but yes, I bought the boot and it had gaps between every song. It is horribly irritating so I immediately moved my copy onwards. I’m forever hoping Tool release a proper version of it.
Bundis
I recently bought a copy of this bootleg, and I totally agree with what's been said here. This press is on par with the CD, dead quiet, with just the random click here and there. Fingers crossed an official release will surface soon, a triple vinyl would be perfect for this masterpiece.
xander
This is a great bootleg. I bought it just for aesthetics of having one, but it's really good. My copy two red LP's and when I turn it way up, it just gets louder. Based on the reviews from some others, sounds like not all of them are this quality. Very worth the $35 I spent on it.
Defolosk
Mine has the name of the album on the front in red.
Bragis
Mine has artist and album title on front in red, too.
Galanjov
Is this a bootlet? I cannot tell, because I am still new to identifying bootlegs.
Domarivip
"UNOFFICIAL" means bootleg. There you have it. It's a bootleg. But it isn't available any other way, so fuck it. Get one.
Swiang
10,000 Days has never been officially released on vinyl. It's a boot.
Onoxyleili
It's a bootleg/counterfeit. 10.000 days was never released on vinyl.
tref
There is a mispressing of this that actually contains Lateralus instead of 10.000 Days, so beware.
Cordantrius
Love my copy, all blue and sounds great all the way through
sunrise bird
Mine too is total blue. AND IT SOUNDS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL CD, EVEN IF IT’S UN UNOFFICIAL COPY! A VERY UNIQUE CASE BUT, GODDAMN, IT WORTHED ALL THE MONEY I SPENT(was about 45 bucks. Not so much, if you see some nowadays price on e-bay)
Levion
I have this on vinyl and bought it from ebay. I knew it was a bootleg copy as this album was never released on vinyl apparently. I got the edition with one blue and one orange 12" vinyl. Finally went to give it a spin and it isnt even 10 000 days. It is lateralus and not one song from 10 000 days. The stickers and jacket both say 10 000 days but it isn't. Has anyone else had this issue? I can't even seem to find another copy of this color variation. Any info?

My copy is on blue vinyl (both discs) and is definitely 10,000 Days. Want to sell your Lateralus?
Boyn
Top notch bootleg release. One Yellow and one Blue. Satisfying sleeve printing. A Collectors item indeed.
Shistus
The sound quality of this (bootleg) pressing is basically identical to the CD. Nothing to gain here except for the collector really. The CD is fairly brickwalled in terms of compression, it really deserves a 24bit /96k vinyl mastering. Undertow and Opiate are prime examples of how good Tool sound on wax. Why no official pressing has been released nearly 10 years on now remains a mystery.
Blackbrand
I just picked up a copy, disc one is black and the other is blue. I have yet to give it a listen
Ffrlel
Why the fk would you comment and rate a release you hadn't even listened to? Thanks for nothing.
Zymbl
My copy has one yellow and one blue LP. Thought this was an official release, but still glad that bought it. Quality is pretty bad, Both have noise, especially in the first tracks of each side/vinyl
Dozilkree
My problem with this record: it is looking exactly the same like this but there is the Lateralus music on it not 10,000 Days. :( Anyone else do have this kind of problem?!
The_NiGGa
Mine is the same. But that's cool :)) I was surprised :D
AfinaS
jep, got the same version here. bought it at a flea-market.
Gravelblade
I have the same story with it. first lp is the Lateralus first...bummer
VizoRRR
This is a very good sounding boot.Mine needed a serious cleaning when it was new.A few pops in quiet spots on this press but worth the 40$ I paid as these dudes don't care about vinyl. I was really impressed with the volume of it and everything rip from cd or not.
Kulalbine
I bought a second copy of this after mine was lost in the post - sound quality is amazing! Perhaps this is an official release that the band members made to look like a bootleg? Wouldn't be the first time they had tried to trick us with the vinyl pressings... certainly not the first time they had made spelling errors on a release!!
inform
Spinning it for the second time right now, got it nice and cranked up this time to test the clarity and sonic depth at higher volumes, and I gotta say that for a boot.....WOW. This copy is definitely worthy of filling the unfortunate gap in the Tool vinyl catalogue.
Warianys
I agree with the other posters. This "bootleg" is well worth the money and it sounds GREAT! This will fill the hole in your Tool vinyl collection with ease.
Nten
While I know we aren't on youtube here and the conversations are always practical and civil on Discogs, can we please appreciate a referance to 'filling your hole with ease' on a forum for a band that wrote the song stinkfist? I love it.
Raniconne
Wouldn't even consider this a bootleg because of how well it's made
Lucam
My copy of Tool (2) - 10,000 Days has one BLUE and one RED LP.
Āłł_Ÿøūrš
Did you listen to it? Mine also has one blue and one red (looks more orange to me) LP but yet it is lateralus instead of 10 000 days.
Hi_Jacker
For anyone confused, because this is an "unofficial release" it just means that though it is a boot leg IE not in commercial print does not mean it is not a promo copy or that it wasn't pressed by the label. It just means that they weren't intended for sale. That's it. I lucked out on a copy and it sounds great. Not 180 gram audiophile vinyl great, but it actually surpasses a lot of Music on Vinyl issues.
lolike
Labels don't press 1000's of "promo copies" - this is a straight up bootleg of a highly sought after item, and the band didn't see a dime.
Coiril
Excellent LPs, jacket, and sound quality for a bootleg! I would highly recommend getting this if you desire 10,000 Days on vinyl. Since no official release exists to date, it's as good as it gets!
betelgeuze
I just received 82876-81991-1 LP and it was supposed to be BlueX2 and I got 1xRed and 1xBlue. I already have the 2xRed and I will be saving this as well. The sound on the 2xRed is pretty god damn good for a promo release.
Saberblade
My copy is a translucent red, almost pinkish, can someone provide info if this is a known colour?
Coirad
Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann): been there... :)
Gaiauaco
Very nice Item;I have the "blue" version. Unfortunately, Vicarious it's a little bit noisy for a new vynil(vynil is perfect). Anyway, this album, in any form, worths. Always!
Dondallon
My brand new copy - VICARIOUS is very very noisy (after cleaning with my Loricraft PRC-3) and it leads into JAMBI as well. Affects the listening experience negatively IMO.
Mr_NiCkNaMe
If anyone happens to get two vinyls of sides c/d in their copy, please let us know. We got a copy, obviously with two vinyls of sides a/b in our order - still very frustrated about this.
Wyameluna
I am having exactly the same problem now (two vinyls of sides a/b). Very frustrating indeed, did you find a way to work around this?
Nikobar
Yep, they are working on new album now. They've released pics on the toolband website of "the loft."
Opithris
I cannot speak directly for this copy because I own the red version, but I would assume they are very similar if not the only distinction being the color. Here is my review for the red version, which I feel should cover this one as well."For a known bootleg, unofficial pressing, this sounds pretty good. About cd quality but any record collector knows that having the actual sound waves in wax in front of you is amazing nonetheless.Whoever pressed this did so with care. The discs are pretty heavyweight, the sleeve is fairly thick and sturdy, which is unexpected of a bootleg. All in all its not like most bootlegs which are solely a collectors item, not worth spinning, but this one is definitely a bit higher caliber. Awesome collectors item and good enough sound quality for a release that was never truly sanctioned!"

It's been 6 years, I wonder if new tool is on the way soon.... its usually every 4 years or so that a new cd drops. I'm still in love with this album though, the excitement of picking up this album when it came out was like angels giving me a sign from the heavens :) I'd love to experience that feeling again, please release something new guys! <3

Tool is quite possibly one of the greatest "thinking man bands" of the time. There musical talent is far beyond most of todays common pop bands. Keenans voice is completely distinct from any other voices of the time, and portrays an atitude of insanity quite possibly only compareable to Pink Floyd's Roger Waters. 10,000 Days, being my first Tool experience, will always be to me the greatest album by Tool. The story line is completely insane and dark. There music varies between heavy metal Metallica esque sounds such as Vicarious and Jambi and the use of disturbing sound effects and chants such as in Lipan Conjuring. The album starts out having the feeling of a fairly talented and catchy heavy metal band. As you continue into the album the albums breaks down into an extremely addicting musical journey. The rise and falls in the bands volume made me jump. The use of the thuderstorm sound effects caught me off guard making me realize that this is no average metal band. As the album nears the end it breaks down into complete craziness and finnaly end with the sounds effects of a machine. Overall I would say that Tool, especially in this album, is bringing talent and uniqueness back into popular music.

People who declare their favourite band to be for "the thinking man" but don't know grammar and spelling are just so cute!

I feel that 10000 Days picks up where Lateralus left off, and Tool continue to put effort into expansion. After listening to Lateralus and all the previous albums for 5 years, with only live bootlegs to satisfy my thirst for new Tool, I was ready to move on and put Tool in my "happy memories." And then I bought 10000 Days, listened to it intently, alone, straight through with no stops. It was like having a really profound conversation with a close friend. I was moved and inspired. Also, admittedly, confused and a little foggy headed when I went outside. My point is, Tool continue to provide releases with no detail left uncrafted, and no moment left meaningless. I was surprised to hear many things on this album that, until now, the band seemed almost reluctant to do. Specifically, Maynard seemed to open up lyrically and emotionally a bit more on this record, speaking of family directly, for example. Progress continues: Danny has his new custom-worked electronic pads with melodic capabilities, Justin does some weird solo features with bass effects (not to mention the classic mind-bending and incredible timing features with Danny), and Adam continues to push the limits of simplism to new levels (e.g. lead guitars in Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned), while also shredding up some mean classic metal riffs in Tool's incomprehensible timing style (e.g. Jambi). All this paired with the incredible album artwork and packaging makes 10000 Days a must-buy.. and, more importantly, a "must listen intently and pay your respect." :)
Stonewing
I probably had too high of expectations for this release, after hearing and loving Tool's past three albums. It seems like the band was trying to maintain a more progressive approach to their music, as opposed to the much heavier sound present on Aenima and Undertow. A good portion of the album is slower, more melodic, and even mellow at times. And while the album still has Tool's signature 6-minute+ epics, only a few tracks such as "Vicarious" seem like they would fit in on Tool's older works. While 10,000 Days is in no way a bad album, fans of Tool's previous releases who are expecting a similar sound may find themselves somewhat disappointed.
